Checked my boys out today and 4 of the jars are about 94% colonized, soo close to being ready. There are some real nice new pinners showing up and one of the jars (the one pictured) is growing invitro. I removed the tape and flipped the other jars, but even they have shown noticeable growth. I believe it will only be about 3-5 more days until full birthing.
yay!

When a jar fails to go rhizomorphic and stops like they did it usually means the mycel came in contact with a contam.
Not necessarily...A foaf brought me some cakes that had a bit more colonizing to do...He said that he saw no contams and that they' were beautifully white....I looked at them and laughed...They had Primordial knots everywhere....He had either looked at them too much or allowed a bit of light in the TiT everyday....
Maybe you have the same thing going?

Not necessarily? You fail to contradict my statement. Please explain.
Lol, wasn't trying to contradict, I was just saying that there's other explainations besides contams...;)
Light = Myc. to start fruiting and when it begins to fruit myc. halts/slows down....So looking at it a lot will make it try to knot up, thus slowing down colonization....i've seen some people get pins of half-colonized cakes...
Gl...sounds like its going well now

The are approximately 1 month strong now since they were knocked up, but things seem to be moving in the right direction now. Hopefully flipping those cakes will give a good gas exchange so they can finish up.
Thanks again for all the help, and next time it will be 1/2 pint jars.
I was actually considering trying to use a casing method on the jars that hadn't gone rhyzo yet. Don't know though I think I might just want to let them fruit just to get my feet wet. This is afterall my first attempt.

yeah, i started to discover this with my rice jars. they seem to slow down alot when colonizing the top, i thought maybe some rice had dried, but then i removed the foil so the air holes were open, and they finished colonizing the next day.
i think the best method would be to let them colonize to 75%, then take the foil off so they can breathe. by that point contams arent really an issue.
funny thing is, ive never in my history of colonized cakes, witnessed pinning within the jars. strange.
im waiting to see some fruiting pics. are you doing a casing, or do you just let your cakes fruit alone?

I will take thorough pics throughout the stages of life. I havn't decided yet if I want to case. This is my first try at growing so I think I will just fruit the cakes so that there is less to mess up on the first time. However, high yielding casing is extremely appealing!
