Kits? Any good?
    #4066078 - 04/17/05 05:25 PM (19 years, 3 days ago)

I have been searching around for people's opinions on grow kits. Do they work and give good mushrooms? What's the best one to try for small, personal stash growing? Seems like mushroomagic.com has some decent priced kits. I'd appreciate input. To emphasize..i am just looking to grow some shrooms for personal use.. not looking for big yields or necessarily "expert" shrooms.. just some to have for some killer times.

stick with pftek jars 1st. Kits tend to get expensive an if you mess up money wasted

contamination sucks

Do the PF tek.You will be able to do it over and over at a lower cost.

Most kits are spendy, don't give you much & if you F/U once with one - it's as gone as your money is.

Best to build a PMP, or TIT for less money, grow your own PF style cakes, then move up to small bulk substrates, in Glad trays. You will learn more, invest less & get much more return over the long run.

PF all the way. Starting out a few years ago, a friend and I had a difference of opinion. He bought a kit, I made PF cakes. His attempt became a disaster, and here I am, four years later, still chuggin' along.

I started out planning on getting a kit...then I found this place and after doing LOTS of reading I decided to make my own Poor Man's Pod and I am going to be using PFtek with BRF cakes to start.

It's weird because i did start out very determined to be lazy and just get a kit but I couldn't make myself do it once I had researched more!  I think you would be missing out on all the fun as well as wasting your $$ on a kit.  The cost is HUGE compared to putting your own "kit" together.

Best of luck with it all either way!

If on a tight budget... they could get by with a 22 quart Mirro, rather than the AA. I prefer the AA, though.

The 925 & 975 AA sterlizers are pretty automatic. The AA PC's you watch like any other.
