Mushroom Wine?

My girlfriend is really into wine making, and we were thinking about making mushroom wine. Do you guys think that psilocybin would be broken down in the fermentation process? I know that it is oxygenation which breaks down the chemical and that heat speeds up this process. However during the 7 day fermentation process of wine making, oxygen is kept very low because it is also bad for making wine, thus I wouldn't think psilocybin would be broken down, unless the yeast digested it or something.
What do you guys think?

I bet you could make a mushroom beer. Just add tea at bottling time.

Well, psilocybin is pretty stable, psilocin may not make it tho... So there goes maybe half of the alkaloids content. I don't know a lot about wine making, so I couldn't tell if the yeast would eat it or if it's enough heat involved in the process But I would say a little psilocybin may make it. Why don't you try a little batch? It would be a wonderful experiment!!

I think an experiment is in order.
Also after reading this, I'm considering making Blue Lotus Wine!

we make mead all the time.. its a lot of fun.. just make a tea, add sugar and yeast and put into fermenter..
good luck, and post results!

I don't make wine, I only know the basics. She makes white and red, from different berries/fruits and additives etc. I wish I could tell you more, but I'm primarily into psychedelic plants and fungi.
We'll definitely give it a try though, I'm thinking about an 1/8th or so per bottle.(Actually it might be better to use fresh ones, so make that a wet ounce.) Any suggestions from you guys?

I doubt mushrooms contain enough carbohydrates to even allow fermentation to take place. You could of course add sugars or some other juice to the equation, but for that matter you might as well just add mushrooms to already made wines and get the same end result (except without any loss of potency associated with the fermentation process).
Either way sounds pretty nasty so I don't know why you'd bother in the first place

Alcohol with shrooms is definitely a different experience, doing it all the time would make you miss out on something about mushrooms on their own. But it can be a fun experience in it's own right.

Interesting....
For me, I find that any tension or anxiety that sometimes comes during the onset is eliminated. Alcohol brings a calmness to shrooms, pot and other psychedelics in IMHO.
PS: My girlfriends a wino.

wouldnt work for me.
shrooms + ganja = good shrooms + alcohol = vomiting.

I have heard of mushrooms being preserved in honey. Maybe make some mead out of blue honey (honey in which the mushroom essences have been absorbed); or extract the Essenes in mead already made.
Mushroom Mead - sounds good!

One of my many hobbies is mead making and have been tempted to combine our little friends with mead in the past. I have always backed away from the idea because mixing alcohol and shrooms have been reported to increase nausea. But since reading all the extraction info, maybe this is something I should revisit. In the extraction teks I have read there is mention on less nausea (of course all of the alcohol has been evaporated off). Rather than make a "Blue Honey" I would think it would be better to add the shrooms after fermentation has ended. This would allow the alcohol to help with the extraction of alkaloids. I would use a low alcohol tolerance yeast so you don't get anything too strong. Honey can take a long time to ferment (up to 1 year) so don't look for results to be posted soon. I guess I will have to make a run to the brew shop to get some yeast I have everything else.

Given some of the nordic mythology, I am intregued that the origins of mead may have its roots in the mushroom cults. The search for a presesrvitive brings forth another sacred intoxicant.
I have only tried mead once. It was commercial mead, though. I have long heard that mead was psychoactive in its own right. The buzz being something apart from effects of the alcohol. I want to try some mead that is naturally made. I've also read that you don't need yeast, that the honey will ferment on its own. I know that the sugar in the honey will preserve the mushrooms.
Maybe prepare the mead (mix honey, desired spices and a mild yeast)and throw in a dried ounce (I've heard wet ones don't preserve well). As the honey draws out the psilocybin, the yeast will convert the sugars into alcohol and carbon dioxide. My only concern would be that the yeast would eat up all the preserving sugars.
I think either way you try it (mead made from blue honey or mushroom extract with ready-made mead), it will be a long process. Perhaps two long processes; fermenting the honey and extracting the mushroom goodies. I would think the two processes done together might yield problems. But I think there should be an experiment.
Anyone know of a good mead recipe online?

It will, (as long as it has a high enough water content) but wild yeasts like most other wild contaminates are impossible to control as to what taste and alcohol level they impart to the finished product. ENJOY

Well I managed to find some Blue Lotus Seeds online, so I plan to make blue lotus wine if everything goes as planned. Not only is blue lotus suppose to make a tasty wine, but the alcohol is supposed to increase the euphoric effects.
I would have just ordered the dried herb, but this would get quite expensive to order enough for a full batch of wine. (30 bottles.)
