Does this horse manure look like the kind I can use?

Okay, so I go by a local horse boarding and training site and ask if I can have some manure. The guys says no problem, hands me a trash bag, and says to go for it. I get to the area where they put the stuff and it looks different than I expected.
I can't really tell the difference between the horse manure and mud. I'm assuming that any straw in the mix is from the animals consumption, is that right?
I basically have a free ticket to take as much as I want and was hoping you guys could look at the photos below and tell me what you think. This manure is also very wet from the recent snow we had. Do I need to dry it out or just go straight to pasteurizing?
I know there are a lot of threads about horse manure today, but this one is specific to what you see in the photos. Thanks in advance for all of your help.

I wouldn't touch that stuff. I was in a similair situation as you awhile back and came across unturned piles of composted manure, it was black and earthy smelling. Thought I had really struck gold, but cubensis wouldn't colonize the stuff period, it sucked. Not to mention I had to haul away 100+ LBS. of dirt once I found out it was no good.
Only go fresh and age it yourself, or pick aged turds from a field.
Desired texture and look:

Thanks for the tip Diver. I live in a suburb area and farms are abundant. The problem I see is finding a farmer that will be nice enough to let me pick at his field with his horses around. He may be a bit skeptical or nervous about that.
Can you think of any other good sources or means to get fresh horse manure without sounding too anal to a farmer or rancher?

It's not a problem, they won't suspect anything. Been there, done that. Just ask if you could get a load of manure for your tomato garden. If they give you any issues, drive to the next place and try.
As far as sources go, I don't know anything but horse farms. Where I live they are almost every other residence, so it's not an issue finding the h/poo.

Well I called the local feed store in my area and they actually sell horse and steer manure. This is the same store that sells to farmers and ranchers. I don't know if that means anything though. The guy on the phone says that it's as close to the real thing as you can get.
What do you think Diver? I believe it's composted manure but I'm not sure.

I'll take a guess: It's probably the composted-to-the-next-millenium poo you can find at Lowes/Garden centers, etc. for $5 a bag. I wouldn't use it.

You're probably right on this one. Well back to the drawing board. Looks like I have to obtain this stuff the old fashioned way, but I absolutely refuse to pay $4.00 a pound, plus shipping, for someone else's shit. What a ripoff.

It's really not a ripoff considering that once you hydrate manure it gains 3x the weight. So, if you buy 5 LBS. unpasteurized from Tennstud and hydrate/pasteurize it yourself, you are only paying $1.30 for final product (excluding shipping). Plus, you don't have to gather/dry/screen, or any of that hassle.

Point taken Diver. What is the "screen" you are talking about?

I just talked to the horse boarding facility where I got the photos from and they said I can come buy any time and pick from their empty corrals. That should work nicely don't you think?

Yep, perfect. Bring along a big heavy duty Rubbermaid or similar and gather as much as you can.
Then follow Roadkill's H/Poo Tek

I though 25 lbs from Tn stud was 50 bucks?..thats only 2 bucks a pound, and its 5 dollar shipping on all orders? Thats really not so bad...especially like Diver said, expands to 75 pounds...
Of course if you can find it locally for free

your best value is of course buying larger quantities, the shipping will eat you alive if you were actualy paying by the pound for it

Yeah, 20 dry LBS. @ $50 would be $2.50 apiece, I believe he was looking at the 5 dry LBS. @ $20 option, which comes out to $4/pound.

Well I struck out at the horse boarder. His empty corrals had nothing of good use. To tell you the truth, a horse boarding facility would probably not be the best place to pick. The business has an image to keep and that means cleaning up frequently. The chances of my finding weathered horse poo from this type of a facility seem slim.
I've even looked in the classified ads for free horse manure and nothing. I guess I'll have to go rural and door-to-door for this task.
I live in a state where horses are a dime a dozen and I can't seem to find any excrement. What's up with that? I'll probably end up fitting the bill for TennStud stuff.
Any ideas for an alternative that will increase the potency above plain casing?
