Problems with my Jars
    #4062744 - 04/16/05 05:11 PM (11 years, 7 months ago)

This is my first time attempting to grow a mushroom.

I have three jars right now and I inoculated them a month ago today (3-15) The problem is that they don't seem to be making any progress anymore. In fact, one of them almost looks like it is getting smaller.

They don't look like they have any mold in them but there is some condensation in the jars. Here are the pics:

Should I continue to let these develop or should I trash them and try to start over? I don't know what it is that I did wrong, I thought I followed everything exactly.

Thanks in advance for any information.

Ah feel your pain...  click. Turned them upside down yesterday and they are actually growing again. They look different from the pics posted last night. Try it. I believe it lets the gas move around or somethin'.

I suggest turning them upside down and shaking them, as gently as poosible, until they slide down and rest on the lid, leaving a small gap between the glass and the bottom of the cake.

Right now they're growing nice and fuzzy like.  Overnight results

Needs more gas exchange to grow, turn ur jars upside down on a clean dry wash clothe, and growth will continue

I believe that's why you're supposed to use half pint jars.

dont trash them by any means!! if you're impatient you can just birth the guys now and cut off the uncolonized areas (be on the safe side and cut off a tad bit more).

If there are uncolonized portions in the center, I suppose you can still be okay by cutting those out too, and making a casing out of the pieces.
