I read where Hericium on logs (or stumps) should be grown on the "open face" of the wood. In the case of a stump, it should be submerged about 1/3 (I presume for moisture retention etc.). Anyhow, what is meant by open face of the wood? Should holes not be drilled all around the bark like in shiitake (in other words, just placing spawn in the cut edge of stump top)? I would appreciate some clarification on this. thanks--
