Bay Area P. Somniferum Find
    #4060108 - 04/15/05 07:51 PM (13 years, 2 months ago)

Suimush and I found some P. somniferum today; I've harvested 3 pods and we're going back for the rest ripe ones later, possibly.

Someone's front yard, possibly their garden.  They have some sort of herb/flower growing in semi-neat rows on the far side of the yard (away from the papaver).  The papaver is in two small areas, right at the front of the yard, next to the sidewalk, and seems almost clearly to be for decorative purposes...  Then again, they're Chinese ( no offense to any Chinese non-opium users  ).  But you'd think if the people were harvesting for opium, they would have already harvested these finished pods or scored them.

We took a few pods from fallen petals and left many, as well as some current flowers, and soon to bloom flowers; so we don't feel as if we've overstepped our ethics taking from them, as they were right next to a street and likely for decoration - and we're going to spread it all around

*throws handful of seeds out the car window*

Very excellent find, my friend!

I still have to throw my seeds. It's already late in the planting season.
