Last night I woke up in the middle of the night and decided to check on my shroomie friends. I'm a brand new grower, no real success yet. I do have one "big daddy" growing on one of my b+ cakes, and I am babying the hell out of it. I need to print this guy, so I don't have to re-buy the strain. Last night I saw a pin on the other side of the cake. For some reason, I felt the need to pull it off....some silly fear that it would steal some of big daddy's nutrients and affect the size/potency of my upcoming print. This little guy was only about the size of a ball point pen head - the part that pops out when you click your bic. I popped him in my mouth, just to see how he tasted. I went back to bed shortly, and was trying to go to sleep. Approximately 30-45 minutes later, I heard music....well, kind of. It was strange, high-pitched, not like anything I would listen to. No words, just a musical sound. Right behind that, I had open eye visuals - blues & greens, nothing specific. Scared the CRAP out of me! I was definitely awake, under the influence of no other substance, and totally relaxed at the time. What the fuck? How the hell could something THAT little have THAT kind of affect? The audio and open eye visuals lasted less than a minute, with much milder closed eye visuals for appx the next hour, off and on. This seems impossible to me, based on the minute amount I consumed. I haven't done shrooms in about 6 years, but I do partake of many substances, in controlled amounts. I tend to have a VERY high tolerance to nearly everything, so this just doesn't seem real.
Has anyone ever experienced anything similar? Don't want to think I'm crazy over here. Am I?

i dunno it's possible -- are you absolutely SURE it wasn't a dream? cuz i have had dreams that I was lying down in bed but couldn't get up -- like i was frozen but i could see my room perfectly
I have had dreams of my room covered in bright vibrant patterns similar to those on acid -- and then when i wake up it's like a very quick comedown off cid -- i can see remnants of all the patterns and know that i did in fact just see them. dreams are fuckin crazy and can be almost as fun as tripping if you learn how to use them. i personally cant wait to see what dream ill have next -- even though they all turn out to be nightmares
It must be hard to trip if you anthropomorphize your shrooms.

I wish I could explain it away with a dream, but I was wide awake. On top of that, I am one of those people who don't ever remember their dreams. Ever. I even considered mind over matter, but after I chewed that little piece I completely forgot about it. It never ONCE entered my mind that I would feel anything, I just wanted to taste it. I'm a realist and I KNOW this sounds impossible, but I can't imagine what in the hell caused those sensations, if it wasn't my teeny weeny shroomy friend.

one time i wouke up in the middle of the night and felt something on my chest. i peeled it off and it was a shroom!!! i had to hav lost it on my bed in a blanket or something when i was bagging them up. i threw that shroom in my mouth, chomped it up, and went back to sleep! woke up and i was fine. didnt feel any effects, and i dont remember the dream i had.
it begins with an "m" and ends with an "ushroom"

I am very sure that what you experienced is something called hypnagogic hallucinations. These are (usually) auditory and visual perceptions that occur as the brain drops into theta state, preparing for sleep. They occur almost every time you fall asleep, sober or not, but you usually dont notice them.
I'm not sure how psilocybin affects this phenomenon, but for me anyway, cannabis and DXM make it very obvious, and I have also trained myself to look for it while sober, through lucid dreaming practice.
My hypothesis is that the tiny shroom you ate may have triggered a sense of anticipation (since you havent tripped for 6 years) and thus you were more perceptive when your body started to fall asleep. It is indeed true that a shroom of that size would have absolutely no effect, probably weighing no more than 0.03g dry.
Also, I'd like to add that these hallucinations are not limited to just colors and indistinguishable sounds. I often hear voices and dogs barking and such as if it was right beside my pillow (far more frightening than any effects I've ever gotten from any drug, including anti-cholinergics, eww :). While falling asleep and very high, I have seen entire moving flyby-type scenes. Pretty interesting.
If you enjoyed the occurrence, you might also wanna look into lucid dreaming. It's better than any drug if you can master it :) A good site to start is http://www.xs4all.nl/~pasquale/TTM/1/index.html

Well son-of-a-bitch. I never heard of such a thing, but I sure as hell am glad there is a reasonable explanation for what I experienced...would hate to think I'm going crazy just as my children are old enough for me to have fun again.
During that very short period of time (< 1 minute), it actually scared the crap out of me. After reading your response, it does come to mind that occasionally I will have a falling sensation right before dropping off - half asleep and half awake. This was somewhat similar, but I've never experienced the auditory (?) or visual like I had last night. Can't wait to check out the site, as I've always wondered what it would be like to dream and remember it.

The falling sensation is actually your body entering sleep. It starts to become really unresponsive and eventually paralysed. It's called REM paralysis, it's to prevent people from acting out their dreams and wandering around and such as they sleep.
If you can remain aware until you fall completely asleep, you can enter a dream immediately. This is kinda hard to do though cause the falling sensation usually scares the shit out of me at least, and I dont get it often.

hah i ALWAYS am conscious until the second my dream starts -- i love that floaty feeling
sometimes i start seeing or hearing shit tho

I'd also be careful about the first dose.......you may not have the same tolerance for shrooms that you do for other drugs.....
