Covering jars for the PC ride
    #4058341 - 04/15/05 10:34 AM (18 years, 11 months ago)

I'm interested in hearing how everyone covers their jars for the pressure cooker journey.  I still use foil, but would to improve this process if I can.  A roll of aluminum foil can go fast.

Has anyone tried para film?

Tell me what you use!

Nothing actually...just tyvek and lid with a couple holes....

It depends on the type PC you have & how much water you put in it.

Older model AA's or any AA Sterlizer with the toggle relief valve require no covers at all. I use one, but do cover the tops with double coffee filters, as an exterior dust cover.

My PC's also have toggle releases so they spit out almost no steam and lose almost no water. 1/2 an inch of water will do me 4 runs 60-90 minutes each and its still just about where it was when I started (the water level).

nothing, just the tyvek under the lid w/ 4 holes. for wbs, i do 70mL w/ 35mL h20 and just fill the PC up w/ water till it's even w/ the level of wbs in the jars

after nocing i use 1 coffee filter as a dust cover and i noc through 2 holes

I'm still using a regular ol' presto :frown: but I don't cover mine at all either.  rye/water/metal lid with holes/tyvek/metal ring, thats all I do, and my contam rate is 0% and moisture levels are always good w/ my rye... gl bro :stoned:

no, you shouldn't use just coffee filter instead of tyvek or polyfil. coffee filters wont filter out tiny microscopic spores of mold and other contaminates...

I'm talking about DURING pressure cooking, not afterwards, just for your information.

Coffee filters alone will not work as a filter top, no.

I made this thread is to find an alternative to foil when covering up the jars for the pressure cooker run, it's not about filter tops.

Two totally different things.
