First Grow pictures/Ecuador, Malabar, and Chitwan
    #4058387 - 04/15/05 12:45 PM (13 years, 6 days ago)

First of all let me say thanks to everyone, I have had to turn to these forums numerous times while going through my first grow. I started out using brown rice and water in jars (first batch). A few days later I started using birdseed and water crystals these were cased up in a mixture of vermiculite and peat moss. Two of the cases (one Ecuador and the Malabar) also have some homemade worm castings added to the mixture. I have also taken two of the cases of Ecuador that are going on the third flush and this time remoistened them with a mixture of distilled water and mycorrhizal fungi as an experiment. They are starting to flush again so I will let all know if I observe any differences. The first flush of Ecuador in the casing with worm castings seems to be the best so far. Also on my first two casings of Ecuador the second flush beat the first hands down.
I still have my jars going, two are in quart jars and took forever to grow, the others were birthed and in a terrarium. To be perfectly honest I have found casing to be much easier and less labor intensive than dealing with cakes. Also the yield is much higher.
Here are some photos:

This is from today Ecuador on the right, Chitwan on the left

My first flush of Malabar forming (has worm castings mixed in casing)

My very first flush from my very first casing Ecuador

First flush of Ecuador in casings with Worm castings added

My Best Chitwan to date.

def., good work!

is it just me or shouldn't those pinsets be better? the growth through the casing looks like it was pinned at the right time but i would have expected more heavy pinning

The Ecuador was much thicker the second time through, so maybe it wasn't established as well or something. The Malabar and Chitwan are on the first flush so its kind of hard to say as its my first observation of them. Here is a better picture of the Malabar as of today:

It just amazes me how fast they grow this is 24 hours later than the first picture (above)

Chitwan seems to be the laggard more so than the any others. Also, I did have these birthed and then figured out casing was the way to go and pulled them out of the terrarium crumbled them up and cased them.
