cooking poo
    #405717 - 09/27/01 12:30 AM (22 years, 11 days ago)

I haven't posted here in a long time; my success with growing cubensis a few months ago was less than fantastic (small yields, probably because of a less-than-ideal terrarium setup), then I tried Pans and encountered problems. Now I'm getting started with Pans again, which brings me to the subject of poo: I tried it in a cubensis casing some weeks back and the mycelium didn't seem to do very well in it, which surprised me as I thought shit was the holy grail of shroom cultivation. The thing is, I pasteurized the stuff first and was left with a big pot full of opaque brown shit water, which leads me to believe that maybe a lot of the nutrients were cooked out during the pasteurization process, leaving me with a contaminant-proof but not very energy-rich substrate material. Has anyone else found this to be the case? I really want some top-quality poo for my next batch of Pans, because predictably the mycelium doesn't seem to be doing too well thus far...

If you want to get a little crazy try this.

Organic dehydrated cow manure ( for lawns )
Vermiculite
Shreaded Straw
Brown rice Flour
Mineral Water

mix until moist and sterilize in oven bags.

Mix with spawn. and your good to go.

Oven bags, hmm... I don't imagine you can pasteurize in oven bags, can you?
I really ought to try straw, one thing at a time tho...
