Gas Prices

Everyone is going crazy expecting gas prices to shoot to $3.00/gallon for regular by the time summer rolls around. Personally, I don't think the national average with hit that high, but, I am prepared either way.
Use my bike to get to places in town, walk more often, carpool more often, or maybe consider a car with much better gas mileage
|
|
I'll just deal with the high prices

Eh, the Camry gets 420-430 miles to the tank. Plus, Atlanta gas prices are always signifigantly lower than the rest of the nation. Last time I filled up it was something like $2.05/gal for mid grade.
Don't really have a choice for the walking thing. I live in uber suburbia(friend of mine from the city called my place bumblefuck). Besides, even if I did live in the city, Atlanta has shit for public transportation in comparison to other cities.

Here's the real answer: even though gas hit $3 in San Francisco public transportation ridership is only up 3%.

I'm just glad SUV sales keep going down. I hate those things for many different reasons.

I figure once they get ridiculous enough, we'll have more alternatives available.

if you guys had heard, gas prices dropped on average 4 cents a gallon due to less demand... so the less you drive, the cheaper it is

Demand kept rising this week in my state and in one, if not more, of our neighboring states. What is this I hear about getting a tax break (or something similar) if you can prove your SUV is used more than 50% of the time for work purposes? Is it true?

i've already started carpooling and generally just staying at home more often. i commute 30 miles one way so biking is a bit extreme. ATM it cost me ~$5 per round trip to get to work and back. Luckily groceries, pet supplies, etc are directly within that route so i can combine outings with my commute.
I'm also asking for a raise to offset my commute prices.

Plus I dont drive like a manic, and I dont use my air conditioning, even though it hits 110F easily.
All my fellow pizza drivers bitch and complain constantly. I ask them if the actually add up the cost and see how much more it is per month. Of course they dont, they just complain...most pizza drivers are losers any way
But even the extra $20 a month is alot, because I have a very tight income... I just compensate with less money on entertainment/going out to eat.

yea, its just the economy thats going to suffer in the long run...yet Bush keeps telling people the economy is doing great...thats a crock of shit...the billionaire economy is doing great maybe, but for us middle-income folk we're getting fucked.
inflation is coming back, whether they'll admit it or not.

I make $700 a month and im doing fine. No welfare, no food stamps none of that shit. I think the economy is doing great. If it was bad, then I wouldnt be able to afford a computer and internet.
Americans are spoiled and think that if they cant afford a cell phone or satellite TV they are somehow poor and disadvantaged...
I see rising gas prices as a good reason to adopt alternative fuels. Its funny how the same kid who bitches about our reliance on oil now bitches that its too expensive and the economy now has to invest in new infrastructure/technology. I liken it to a blacksmith complaining about industrialization.
Bottom line, ill say it again, Americans are spoiled rotten

So you base the economy on whether or not you can afford a computer and internet access? Ok, cheap "outdated" computers are easy to come by and dial up can be as cheap as 10 dollars a month. Do you live on your own, have the cash to buy decent food for yourself, pay for all your utilities, car insurance, health insurance, and can still afford any kind of social life??? If you can stretch $700 a month to afford a large majority of those things, I applaud you.
I honestly welcome high gas prices. It will help alternative fuel vehicles develop further and finally be mass marketed. I wouldn't mind having an electric powered car in the future. I say, bring it on.

I dont have health insurance or a social life. Oh well i dont deserve either of those things, as i choose to work part time to attend school.
And i agree with your philosophy of high gas prices spurring development of alt. fuels. Necessity is the mother of invention.

Yes, it will at that, not to mention making people conserve it more. We Americans have been guzzling the stuff way too much these past few decades. And let's not forget the dependance upon other countries for the stuff - that's just plain bad news in many ways. I hope the rising prices make some realise that supplies of oil are NOT unlimited.....
