Easy compost preparation
    #4056713 - 04/15/05 12:02 AM (11 years, 7 months ago)

Currently I'm using what I believe to be the best compost in the world... a mixture of dairy cow poo and yard clippings. This stuff is very organic-smelling and all of the green is gone. Just nice dirt-like compost. I think that the addition of the grasses really helps get those tryptophanes and indolamines up in the compost. I mix this with chopped straw (beautiful golden yellow), pasteurize and spawn. Works like a charm. However, I'd like to know what I could do to have a 30 gallon rubbermade of this stuff "composting" together at all times. Breaking down the straw so that it's more suited for mushrooms. Any idea of a simple composter, or how to do this ? I'm going to try getting everything moist and putting it in the bin, turning it every day or three. It works great as is, so I'm not really looking for a super-complex, temperature measuring system. I'd just like that waxy film on the straw to be broken down some.

I've been wanting to try something like this, but haven't gotten around to it yet.  Seems pretty simple... GL bro :stoned:

Interesting. I wonder if people sell cultures of actinomycets for introduction into compost.

Good job RK! Now I'm just gonna have to sit around for a hour and read this post that agar's about to put up!  I don't know how many times I've read his compost post, but for some reason I always end up reading it again! :blazed:

It would work sort of, but SlowMo boioreactor as hell. It takes about a 3 yard boxed in on three sides or fenced in pile (min) to get to heat up right. Without the "heat up" a compost pile doesnt do worth bagged walmart 99 cent shit.

I'm thinking of introducing steam in some fashion, which should keep it at higher temps when it needs to be... I don't know, i'm pretty loaded at the moment, but i think i remember someone else (not shroomy related), i think a family member or something like that does something similar to this for their tomatoes. i remember they said that it was still pretty warm in the middle when they used it... hmm i gotta find out who that was...

A Vicks Vaporizor will heat that somvabitch up.

If anyone ever needs a couple of them Vicks Vapes, I got 2 brand new in package...thought they were the damn cool mists.
