worn down by chronic pain...
    #4053366 - 04/14/05 02:36 AM (19 years, 7 days ago)

"what's the worst that could happen"...
a statement commonly bandied around by
shiny happy healthy, relatively pain-free people...
well here's a news flash...
The worst that could happen....IS TERRIFYING !!!!!
like having your balls burnt every few minutes...
like having your anal orriface opened up and bees
shoved inside to sting u regularly...
like having ants slowly eat up your eyes...
ok, so maybe the probability of this happening
is low..BUT... the probability of living with
BAAD chronic pain is very REAL.
I've had Panic Disorder and Depression after a
bad shroom trip 2 years and 2 months ago. As if
this wasn't bad enuff I've had other physically
traumatic pains to deal with over this course of
time...
My bladder stopped functioning once due to the
meds these crazy docs gave me and I was in agony
for a week.
I developed temperature dissasociation and my body
feels like it's on fire and freezing at the same
time (this has been constant for the past 6 months
and intermittent for a year and a half before that).
For the past month I developed an ear infection when
a doc was examining my ear canal for irritation from
allergies. Since then I've been in excruciating pain due
to the ear infection. Antibiotics have failed as have
other meds...
the answer to "what's the worst that can happen" isn't
very reassuring...and YES, it COULD happen to u
(I never thought it would happen to me, but it did...and is)
anyone dealing with bad chronic pain knows this...
yes, part of pain is psychological, but anyone who
claims that ALL pain can be overcome/dealt with
should kindly try some of the methods I mentioned
earlier to see if they're really being hypocritical...
The worst part is that people only think u need help
when they can see it or it shows up on a lab report.
Everyone (docs, family, friends) just dismisses my chronic
burning/freezing bodily pain (they tell me it's all in my
head and I should get over it)...but...when I had a car
accident last year and was scraped and bleeding quite
profusely (which I'm used to from my ol days of bike racing
martial arts and other sports) everyone was fussing over me
even tho i kept telling em I wasn't in much pain !!!
I told em that my chronic burning/freezing bodily sensations
are MUCH worse than the scraps, bruises n bleeding, but
everyone just ignored me...

anyone else out there living with BAD chronic pain ?
the kind where u want to end your life, even tho
u don't want to, just to stop the pain ?
how do u deal with it ?

indeed..
the pain is a signal...

this signal is interpreted...

its not the pain hurting.. it is the hurt, that hurts..!

I'm sorry concrete, is a word in the dictionary...

Thanks for the feedback Gomp, but don't u think that's
just word play ?
in the world of animals where there are no words is there
no pain ?
I don't buy into the whole word play on pain and suffering
being 2 seperate things. Pain is pain. It hurts and no words
on the planet can change the biological experience and
reality of pain...

Friend, I have something for you. Check out this book. FULL CATASTROPHE LIVING, Using the wisdom of your body and mind to face stress, pain, and illness, by Jon Kabat-zinn, Ph.D.

This works when other pain treatments fail. It was used at the U of Massachusetts Medical Center on folks with cronic pain that modern medicine had given up on. 70% success rate.

Hope this helps you. Take care.

Thanks Man :sun:
Unfortunately, I've read every self help book on the planet...
almost literally !... including every book by Kabat-Zinn.
I wouldn't have asked for help here without doing a ton
of research on my own.
I read "Wherever u go there u are" by Kabat-Zinn as well
as several books from his collegues (all of
Mark Epstein's books, Rosenbergs books, Joseph Goldstein etc).
I'm also not new to meditation (been practicing for 15 years now).
Read, the Tao, Buddhas teachings...been in CBT therapy, taken
medication...forced myself to bike 300 miles every week last
year, lifted weights for 15 years...
but right now the pain is overwhelming, nothing helps, I can
barely move from this couch I'm on...every cell in my body
feels like it's on fire and ice. My ear aches like hell, but
it's far less torturous than the burning/freezing sensation...
if I could just get rid of that...

Wow, I am so sorry to hear this brother.

Now I don't know where to go with this. I'm just going to throw this out at you. I would not usually recommend this route. Find a sympathic doctor and get some very strong pain meds. Try to get some temporary relief and break the pain cycle that you are in.

That's all I can think of right now. Maybe in a clear pain free or reduced place you can try to find out the reason for your life being like this. I'm talking from a spiritual standpoint. I tend to think that what ever is happening to us serves some useful purpose in our evolution. I can't back this up so don't ask. But this has been my overwhelming personal experience. :mushroom2:

I am really pulling for you and I care.

ive had BAD chronic pain.. severe horrible chronic pain for nearly five years now. ive been suicidal throughout all of it and ive tried everything possible to help myself, nothing worked. basically the only thing keeping me here now is my more recently developed opiate addiction. I have no fucking idea how i actually got this far though.. i still don't know how much farther i'll get either. so there you go..

The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. Damn, that's awful man  I'm really sorry :frown:
what kind of pain (if u feel comfortable sharing) ?
I tried opiates (codeine) but it actually makes my
burning/freezing sensation worse and gives me no
relief.

Have you researched neuropathy? You might find some info and support at http://www.theacpa.org the website for the chronic pain association. I wish you healing and peace.

Hey Man!

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I have a similar problem with chronic pain, but not as intense as yours. What I found helpful for me is magnesium/calcium supplements. Funny but true! You may want to check out the following site for some additional suggestions on what may work for you:

http://www.wholehealthmd.com/hc/resourceareas_supp/1,1442,446,00.html

On the other hand, there's always opium  :stoned:

Good luck!

Have you tried accupuncture? I used to have bad chronic back pain and accupuncture has done wonders for me. It might be worth a fair shake.

Keep researching your condition, most doctors either do not care, or have time to research uncommon problems. I've only been in chronic pain (either tendinitis or chronic compression syndrome) for a year now.  I know.

It sounds to me like
TM

Do you have a dog?

When I look into my dog's eyes I know that I could never leave her to fend for herself in this world.

Have you tried drinking 80+ oz of water a day?  I would suggest cayene pepper supplements to get your circulation going and massive amounts of Kyolic Garlic supplements for your infection and also a beeswax ear candle.

Shamanspalace has something called  Iporuru , when mixed with Kratom, Lousewort and some cannibis, it should definately do something for a few hours/days.

Don't give up on us man, it gets better

Holy crap I felt this.
Especially not beings believed.
Even when I can’t speak, only whimper..
People who have known me decades, and never seen me even tear up.
It’s crazy.
I’ve had that freezing/burning thing too. It’s not constant and even I thought it was in my head before you mentioned it.
You know what? Eff the people who even give a crap about addiction. There are tons of meds that are addictive. If they work, we should be able to use them. Wean off later, just like any other.
I have a friend who is newly diagnosed with diabetes, but it hit him hard. He’s doing low carb and that is helping with his issues. But he doesn’t have our pain so it’s just another dart to throw if you want.
Hugs.
Wish I could be more helpful.
