musicians & mirrors

here's a tip for the musicians here (it won't apply to all of you, but can help some of you).

when practicing, do it in front of the biggest mirror you can find. i think many stores still sell a cheap plastic-framed full-length mirror for ~$9. they are also pretty cheap at garage sales.

when using a mirror, you can watch yourself from a different angle. you will see flaws in your technique that you can't see without the mirror.

every cello teacher i've ever had has suggested this. my classical guitar teacher told me to do it too. i was recently reminded of this when i heard a guy teaching dobro say he does the same thing. it may sound odd, but it really does help. it is one of the most efficient ways to improve your playing.

obviously, this doesn't work for every instrument. i hope this helps.

Cool. You play CG?

I set up my stand and everything in my bathroom, so I have mirrors all around me. It's really helpful, and I noticed definite left hand improvement within a few days.

yes, but i haven't played much recently. i've had a hectic schedule that won't allow any type of consistent practicing/playing of anything.

i need to start spending those random, free 5-10 mins i get practicing though, instead of posting.  :smirk:
