Okay so i asked about horse poo and was told that i needed to find from-the-field horse poo. That got be a bit dissapointed but fine...
Today I was going through some old TEK's and found this one
Skippys TEK
"skippys Store Bought Poo TEK"
Are there different varieties of poo to buy at a store?? I was told that "that black, store bought poo is useless!" Is this true??

Composted manure from lowes/home depot or whatever will work, but its gotta be mixed with straw. Also its like a ford escort compared to a mercedes. Horse poo is just way better, but you can get great results from store bought manure. This is store bought manure and straw:

and here is some horse poo the day it was spawned:

Grrr.. alright alright!!!! This place down in the next city has a sign right next to a HUGE horse poo pile saying "Free-U Haul"
Now.. I'm sure some parts of the poo in this pile are OLD and some are fresh and new. From what I've gathered so far I should pick the poo w/ little to no smell and the stuff that looks like it's dry... THEN follow the Poo TEK without the leaching (somoene said if it doesn't smell like ammonia.. then you don't have to leach). I plan on mixing the H Poo with colonized 1/2 QT WBS jars (the WBS goes 1/2 way up the 1qt jar) in a plastic 'shoebox' sized container and letting colonize. How long should this take?? After that I plan on casing with straight coir, or a 50/50 mix.
Sound good? Anything youd do differently??
Are there ANY other good materials to spawn to?? I've heard straw sucks because it invites contams.. but when mixed w/ poo it's fine.

Sammy,
The reason everyone was telling you that store bought manure is worthless is...
because most of it is useless!
and We would hate to see you fail.
Yes there is a few different brands that I have heard of that have worked over the years...but they are few and far between.
The stuff that was used in the thread that you posted...was limited to the NorthEast part of the United States. Plus the company that sold it had filed for Chapter 11...so they might not be in business any longer.
If you would like to go out and try some brands of the store bought manure...be my guest...and I wish you nothing but sucess. Please post your results if you do...maybe this will help others that can't get out to a field to pick up some horse poo or cow manure in person.
take care!~

I've got a few complications.
1) I live in an apartment with verrrry little outdoor space to myself, and it would look mighty silly to have a tarp with horse shit laying outside. What do I do????
2) I've only tried PF jars before with good success. I'm doing WBS right now ... and the addition of poo to all of this is kind of confusing to me. What's all this spawn business?? Does putting my colonized WBS mixed into the pasturized poo create 'spawn'? And if so.. how long will a shoebox sized mix like this take to fully colonize??
Thanks Sammy

Ive used black kow and greenleafs store bought , ending with very bad results... honestly this stuff is too composted and the chance of finding any that is good for growing has very low odds.. I suspect that the people who grew with store bought and straw , owe it mostly to the straw. Just make it a mission and hit up some local horse places... You won't regret it, cause once you find a good spot, odds are there will be more hourse manure than you can imagine using up..

1. get aged horse poo....that doesn't need to be dried out. It's ready to go...so no need to dry it out.
2. yes...you would spawn(mix) your colonized WBS jars into the pasturized poo...making a bulk substrate. It would take up to 7 or 8 days to fully colonize the bulk substrate. Then you would put a casing layer on it.

Exactly, my feelings all along. I don't think I've seen a single grow on straight store bought manure. If it exists, ok then I'm wrong. But how can you produce accurate results when it's supplemented with other ingredients that cubensis been have proven to grow on? You can't.
But straight horse poo on the other hand...now that's a slice of heaven.

EVERY single one of you guys ROCK the socks off my blocks!!
Tenn Stud Poo sounds pretty good... but my guess is with all the dry weather we've been getting out here in WA..... dry poo will be here in plenty.
I wish I could personally shake each and every hand of the people who have helped me out today.. it's been great!
