US educational system at its finest.
    #4052140 - 04/13/05 08:13 PM (19 years, 7 days ago)

So I'm in class tonight and the professor is talking about Newton's scientific discoveries.

He said Newton found out density affected gravity so materials that were more dense fall faster because they're "pulled" more by gravity.
:what:

You should ask for a refund of that courses tuition.

makes sense but it wouldn't make enough of a difference to be observable. All objects pull at each other just not that much. The moon pulls earth as the earth pulls on the moon.

Did anyone else ever have their physics teacher do that experiment with a rock and a feather? He puts both into a long tube and sucks most of the air out then inverts the tube. Both objects strike at the same time.

Letto - No, no one said anything. I was sitting in the back drawing in my notebook and I was like wtf? No one said a word so I just went back to drawing. Their loss.

I've been out of school for quite a long time but isn't there a well known rate at which all objects fall? I mean like 30ft/s/s or something like that? This prof get his degree at K-mart or something?

Yeah, that's acceleration caused by gravity on earth, not counting air resistance, alright. Rounded of course.

In my experience instructors don't take kindly to being made an ass of in front of their class. I've explained to a few teachers they were wrong about something in front of a class and afterwards regretted it. Although it is a nice ego boost, stuff like that is better left for a private conversation.

Or just write "YOU'RE WRONG SUCKA!" on a piece of paper with a magic marker and hold it up when he looks your way.

Western Civ. We're at the end of the course now so the last chapter was on 1600-1800. He spend around 30 seconds describing John Locke and his ideas which upset me a little.

I once had a geography professor at my community college try and tell me that marco polo was chinese. I said no, he was portoqese and explored china. She said NO, he wasn't and wouldn't talk about it anymore.

I forget if he was protoquese(sp) or not, but I know he explored china and wasn't from china.
