Can I dunk yet?

I have 14 cakes and they are done all the way around the sides, and mostly on the bottom except for a few small areas. I am going to be leaving town so I need to go ahead and dunk them so I can birth them before I leave so I can come back before they fruit too long. Can I dunk them yet or do I need to just let them sit and colonize more?

Usually it's safest to let them go a day longer once you see full colonization, this ensures the center finishes up. I wouldn't dunk now if I were you, just going by the uncolonized spots you described. Let them incubate until you get back.

If you are going to be gone for more than a day or two you ought to just leave them in the jars. You probably shouldn't leave them in the terranium for that long unattended unless it is automated.

just leave them alone, dunk them when you get back. as long as they are in the dark you should have no problems when you get back. if you try to dunk them before they are finished you will only end up with contams.

You could cut out uncolonized parts and case them. :thumbup:

If this is your first go (and thus first time using this grow chamber) do not leave them for days. Something always goes wrong the first time and it is best to be around to catch it.

Also there are some major benefits to leaving a recently fully colonized cake in the jar longer. 1) It might not be done all the way in the middle. 2) It will produce more potent shrooms. I found that by leaving them in the jars for an extra week or two the mushies were much strong because the mycelia has had more time to break down and feed on the substrate. So when you fruit them they are full of actives and energy. :zoom:
