dunking invitro cakes with h2o2, fizzing sound & bubbles. Am I ok?
    #4052669 - 04/14/05 01:05 AM (13 years, 2 months ago)

I have some cakes that have been sitting around for awhile. I thought I had them in the dark, but some light must have gotten to them because they started pinning invitro. I took them out, they had some bruising around the pins but other than that looked fine, so I've proceeded to dunk them in h2o2/h2o (I picked the pins first). My question is: they are now making a fizzing sound and the water is getting tiny bubbles. Does this mean my cakes are contaminated? They smelled ok out of the jar.

Its natural. Mycelium is producing peroxidase which is breaking down the peroxide.

Yea, they are Ok. But i would wonder whether you used too much h202 in the mix. There has been a lot of talk on the forum recently of h202 causing mutants. And i seem to produce overlay when i mist with water that has too high a h202 concentration. IMHO, a dash will do ya.

Thats lysol that causes mutants, not H202. Petrolium based products.

I used about a 1:10 ratio. I just drained them both and refilled with tap water. One of the cakes is blueing really darkly towards the area where the myc has grown into the verm I had on top of the cake (the layer that acts as a filter during incubation).

She should be fine. Next time try a 1:25 dilution.
