Hericium Substrates..
    #4052408 - 04/13/05 11:32 PM (12 years, 6 months ago)

Anyone have experience growing this mushroom, the lion's mane?

I have read eastern studies where they fruit on pure sawdust or supplemented sawdust, no chips.

This article states that 2kg blocks of beechwood sawdust supplemented with %20 cornmeal were high yeilding compared to wheat bran or cm/wb mix..

Paul Stamets also states in his book Growing Gourmet and Medicinal Mushrooms that yeilds of 550grams on a 5lb block on unsupplemented alder sawdust.

Does anyone have any experience growing this mushroom?

What substrate did you use?

This mushroom is very interesting in the fact that it can begin forming fruiting-bodies 2 weeks after inoculation of sawdust..

Thats really fast! And also being a wonderful medicinal and tasty edible this mushroom would be really great to get out there more..

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Yesterday, I inoculated 300 gr. of colonized rye spawn on a substrate of Beech chips supplemented with wheat bran (900 gr. / 100 gr. dry weight). Two weeks seems very fast.

The Hericium mycelium was growing very vigorous on MYA agar though. We'll see...
