Casing Question
    #4051859 - 04/13/05 06:50 PM (18 years, 11 months ago)

Dear fellow shroomerites:
I have colonized my first pf jars (what a noob !) and i am going to case them. I have everything i need for an optimal casing layer: Verm, Spaghum Peat, Coco Coir, and crushed oyster shells. The containers that i will fruit in are the issue at hand. My original plan was to have each casing have its own tub, so i bought some Tupperware at wal mart that is the same size (width x length) as a tin foil baking tin, except it is about 12" tall. I have a lid that fits the jars and it is clear. I have taped the bottoms to prevent light filtration, yadda yadda, I've done my hw. But what i wanted to know is, will casings be alright in their own containers if i mist and fan them? I probably need to leave the tops on to keep out contams, and retain moisture, so keeping them on is important. I have read a lot on the TiT idea, and this is like that, combining the 2 tubs into 1 tub. Anyone tried this, advise against it, encourage, etc ?

it will be fine as long as you dont "love them to death".

Being your fist grow i would actully recomend many seperate casings instead of one huge one. That way if one contams the others will be seperate and you only lose one instead of the whole thing.

yeah, i have 6 of the mentioned containers. My hope was that if one became contamed, it would not be in close vicinity to the others :-).

thats the smart way to do it when your new.

Most pros around here do the same. But every now and then one gets the urge to grow a huge casing. Usally contams though.

so what is the best way to keep moisture with hand spraying? my guess is to hit the sides. (no cool mist, yet)

you can mist the casing pretty heavily if you need to before the pins start. Just dont make and puddles or anything to wet.

The misted casing will supply the micro-climte the shrooms need to pin.

After you see pins i would start misting the sides more and the actual casings alot less and with a very fine mist.
