Basic Wiring
    #4051553 - 04/13/05 07:08 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

I've got an old school soldering iron, it has no temp. control but I'm going to wire one into the circuit.

I'm guessing I can just go to a hardware store and pick up a tempature control gauge and i'm ready to go. Is there anything I need to be sure of?

The soldering iron is 110-120b, 40w...

because 40w is a little too hot for 18 guage wires if caps are close by. i use tops a 25 watt for guitar repair.

don't use a temp gauge. go to radio shack and get a 100k potentiometer. make sure it's rated for the wattage.

they sell 40W pots?! that would be a beefy pot.

if your inclined to dish out some $$$ for a cool toy pick up a variac. yes, it's expensive but oh so useful.
