Dry surface of casing...
    #4050887 - 04/13/05 04:31 PM (11 years, 7 months ago)

Hey everyone, this is my first attempt at casing and up until now everything's been going fine. I've been diligent with my misting, the temperature is fine, and the whole thing is in a window that gets a nice supply of sunlight every day.

However, I've noticed that the fruiting layer is VERY dry, like almost caked. It crumbles quite easily, but just sitting there it's a pretty solid layer. I was wondering if there's anything I can do about this, like misting more, or crumbling it manually? What about deep scratching?

Thanks in advance!

you might be getting too much sun light...you don't want dirrect sun light.
that might be drying your casing layer out.

mist it down real good...til its nice and moist again.
don't over saturate it though!~

and move it away from the window.

the casing layer shall be VERY moist for pins to form.
if it, as you said, is fucking cracker dry, you fucked up .. sorry.

you can try that:
scratch some off it using a sterile fork and mist the living popsticle out of it,
but to now make it form pools of water on the surface, just up to the point of very nice saturation.

repeat misting every day, till you get primodia but do not spray it down
but pump into the air above it and let gravity pull the water droplets down onto the layer.
peace ohm :mushroom2:

*edit*
road's been 1 second faster on that one
