Being wild....have a wild streak?
    #4050292 - 04/13/05 12:37 PM (18 years, 11 months ago)

I feel I have a wild streak that I can't subdue.  Maybe it's a residue left over from my crazy teenage years or something.  (I'm 22 right now) It's the part in me that screams 'NO' whenever I'm threatened to be saddled with an inkling of responsibility.  It's the part of me that finds mundane routine oppressively dull and yet oddly reassuring at the exact same time.  Sorry to be a drama queen but half the time I feel like a little kid, content to play in the creek...the other half of the time I feel OLD OLD OLD, about to die.

Anyone know what I mean?  My parents said it is a rite of passage to feel this way in your 20s.

I know EXACTLY what you mean.  I'm 22 as well, but I sometimes feel really old, then there's times I act like I'm about 7.  I've worked full time and lived on my own since I was 18, but at the same time, I STILL have issues getting out of bed in the morning, and I have to make myself be responsible.

Growing up sucks.

Your parents were right.

You may disagree with this next statement....but IMO it is very true.

I am 38 and have a 19 year old daughter. I keep telling her that she is  not grown up yet. That she is still in a hormonal stupor and will be that way until she is 24-26. By then your body/mind will have become accustom to all the extra hormones and you wont feel so retarded one day and king of the world the next.

Same here.  One day I think I know EXACTLY what I'm going to do with the rest of my life, I get all excited and start making plans.  The next day, I'm second-guessing myself again and I get all confused about what I'm supposed to be doing.

I hear this is a pretty normal way for people our age to feel.  Which reassures me because today is a day in which I am confused again.

The question I keep thinking of...  What am I supposed to be doing with my life right now?!  :argh:

I'm 27 and i wake up feeling the same way everyday.

People that work fulltime WASTE their lives. You spend 1/3 of your life sleeping, and if you work fulltime 1/3 of your life working. That leaves 1/3 left to do everything else, which is ridiculous.

How are you supposed to live if you are working and sleeping 2/3 of your life?

Sometimes I feel old as well , I turn 23 in about a month. I am very analytical and apply mathmatics to just about everyting , I went to thinking I am almost 25 years old. And even if I live to be 100 , almost 1/4 of my life is gone which kinda scared me.

I agree life is too short to spend it working 40 hours a week , hopefully once I get my degree I will be able to do most of my work from home either by telecommuting or over a VPN.

WASHINGTON, DC?A report released Monday by the Federal Consumer Quality-Of-Life Control Board indicates that the cost of living now outstrips life's benefits for many Americans.

"This is sobering news," said study director Jack Farness. "For the first time, we have statistical evidence of what we've suspected for the past 40 years: Life really isn't worth living." ...

Sometimes it's good to be the little kid, playing in the creek, with a childlike sense of wonder and curiosity.....

I'm 22 also, 23 in less than 2 weeks. and I feel exactly like you do. Somedays I'm very confident and proud of the fact that I'm majoring in art. Other days I think to myself... who am I kidding? Where am I going to go with an art degree? But I've vowed to do it so I'm going to... and if it doesn't work out, that's when I'll have to start worying about things... not yet.
