Looking for good literature
    #404900 - 09/26/01 03:45 PM (15 years, 2 months ago)

My mother and I had a short talk about my regular use of acid last night. She didn't seem too happy about hearing what I had to say. It's not like she has a say in the matter or anything, it's just that I would like her to understand the chemical itself and the culture behind it. I told her I would get some really good books for her to read so that she could understand the drug and culture behind it a bit more. Right now, she is a product of a DARE society.

Anyways, I'm looking for an up-to-date, very informative book covering the short and long term, physical and mental effects of the drug. I am also looking for a really good book explaining methods of mental expansion through the use of psychedelics. Something explaining about ego loss and all that good stuff.

If anyone could recommend some really good reads I would be most appreciative! Thanks a bunch!

"The doors of Perception" and "Heaven and Hell" by Alduous Huxley can be found together in one book for cheap. Excelent book!! There are positive vibes reguarding psychodelics in this book that u can use (I would read through and find the most usefull stuff). The only thing is these deal w/ peyote which has a more freindly reputation than cid. Anyway its a great read and might help.

Hey, you've got a F&LiLV quote in your sig (who hasn't) so why not plonk her down in front of that for a while.
My scene of choice would have to be where Hunters attourney (sic.) is in the bath.

Seriously though, I've had similar issues... it's hard to get the point across when people are just convinced you're going to become a schizo.

Great now we have a fucking spell checker here.

I don't recommend the doors of perception, IMO there are much better books out there, for one 'Psychedelic Drugs Reconsidered' it covers alot and if any book could crack a brainwashed dare head its this one, IMO. You'd probably enjoy it too.

"THe electric acid kool-aid test" is of course a classic...not the book, i mean try it on your mom...JK

If she wants to study the effects of acid on a writer she should read "The hitchikers Guide to the galaxy"

I assume you were referring to HeavenlybluE3113...
If you can recall one of his previous posts, spelling is one of his gifts... he can spell anything. I do the same thing with grammer just to throw people off while they are talking.

Wintertime - Did you mean an e-book of F&LiLV??  If anyone knows where I could get this I'd defintately thank them.

Heavenly Blue - Yah, that's the bugger - cheers.  I actually meant to put (sp.) not (sic.) but I guess the (sic.) fits too.

'Psychedelic Drugs Reconsidered' looks like a good read in deed. I think I may just get me a copy of that. ;-)

Everlast: yep i meant an e-book of fear and loathing, I just saw the movie a few days ago.. liked it.. found it quite funny in parts :) "we can't stop here, this is bat country.."
but yep

i've found a few online e-book sites, but none that have fear and loathing in las vegas. here is an address where they have a fair few books: http://onlinebooks.library.upenn.edu/search.html

if anyone knows a site with fear and loathing typed out i would be much obliged! <don't worry, i do intend to buy the book if i like it>

I know that he conceived the idea for HHG when he was piss drunk in a field somewhere. Never heard about the acid either. Its possible though. Too bad he's dead now.

Hehe, HB mr spellcheck, you may notice that Everlast is based in the UK, and attourney, is actually spelt 'attourney' over here in l'Europe. Yes, it's probably just us being awkward.  :stoned:
