I' ve been thinking on afew subs. for verm. Sometimes it might be hard to get and other times it's no problem. Well in either case I' ve been toying around with the idea of using, sawdust, shredded paper(toilet paper), and cardboard, mixed with the usuall BRF....you know PF style. Anyone of these seems to be reasonable...no? They all hold water,sterilizing wouldn't be a problem, and as a benifit, the wood loving shrooms would be at home....I think! All this is just thoughts I came up with....Somebody else may have already tried...I really don't know. Tell me what you think. After I get some solid prints from my crop of Pan.Cyans(which havn't started yet), i might start do do some of these exper. Unless somebody already has?

Yes I do belive you are right....some shrooms wouldn't like the sawdust(fuel pellets), the paper, ect. I was refering to the Pans. or Azure type. Only because I think this offers alittle more goodies then the verm. , and still would be easy to use, like the PF style. I thought it might help to the new comer of these type of shrooms(such as myself). I' ve done alot of reading on the matter, and I like the idea that cardboard is used to replace agar if need be. I belive that if this works, this would be a great way to go. After all...we all want better shrooms. Hopefully this might make it that much easier....i don't know.

Well, Azures and Ps Cyan would grow well with it, however I don't know that Pan Cyans would.
What is this you are talking about card board being used as agar?

i think he is rederring to the point that you can start a mycellium base of ps cyans and azures from soaked cardboard. its made from wood and still has a good amount of the nutrients in it. its also a very selective substrate and much less prone to infection.ive also heard you can get a cyanescens cake to fruit by laying strips of soaked cardboard on it almost like a casing layer. i plan to to do some psilocybe cubensis testing in the future but i havent confirmed any of this yet.

cardboard from what I understand has been used as agar. I belive someone at the forest floor has used it in that manner. Maybe I misunderstood what I was reading. I thought a person or tek called RUSH WAYNE. Doesn't that go into detail of using grey cardboard as agar? Perhaps I better read it again...heh :) Even if I am wrong, I still think the idea of using this in substrate might be a good idea. I'll get back to you on the other matter.

agar is a gelling agent- its not the technique but part of a mixture. rush wayne is most popular for his work wuth hydrogen peroxide and mushrooms.

Yeah, I meant that I didn't know you could use card board as a medium for culture growth. But, because it is used with azures then I shouldn't be surprised.

I've read about using cardboard instead of agar in R.Waynes Vol 2.
He suggests disks of agar in petri dishes or jar. Moistened with water for wood-loving myc and with nutrient water for other species. Anyone tried it?
