Peaceful trip music

I don't know if there is anyone else that thinks the way I do about trip music. When I trip, I like to play music that is very possitive(esPECIALY on LSD). The BEST rock music in my opinion to trip to is the music of the 60's. I know there are a lot of people here that like to listen to Tool and stuff like that because it has trippy sounds, but I have to take it a step further. My trip music has to be very possitive as well.
The reason I think 60's psychedelic music is best for tripping is because at that time, they were so much more free and optomistic. Groups like the Beatles and Doors, etc, etc seemed to be really enthusiastic about what they psychedelic thought could do to push humans up the evolutionary ladder. When you're tripping, THAT'S the thought you want to be in. You want to have possitive thoughts. After the 60's people forgot about that thought. They thought it was a fad. Now groups are more depressed, dark and angry. I don't want to feel like that when i'm in a highly suggestable state. I feel that whatever happens when you're tripping makes a deeper "imprint" on your psyche because of the suggestability of your state of mind. I want listen to people who were in "THE THOUGHT"(I don't know how to explain that term except that it's close to hippy ideals). The only groups that I think are close to the thought are the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and maybe those jam bands that I don't listen to(but respect). The kinds of music I feel are best for tripping are things such as:
The Beatles(preferably psychedelic era) almost any classical The Doors Timothy Leary or any psychedelic enthusiast Jimi Hendrix 60's Pink Floyd Jefferson Airplane some Cream, Rolling Stones(Her Satanic Majesty's Request), Janis Joplin, etc., etc. even techno
anything that doesn't speak of hate, anger, depression, etc..
Anyone else think the same way, or at least understand what I mean? Whether you do, or not, i'd like to hear your opinions on this.

i dont know much about THE THOUGHT or any hippy ideals but you're perfectly right, music should be happy. your theory also sounds logical to me. every time has its own music style, which is influenced by the experiences the people do at this specific time.
On the more electronic side try "plaid" or "bogdan raczynski". I think this is real happy music, though a bit strange for the first time listener.

In my opinion, the all time best music for tripping would be ambient. No words, just deep, dreamy music. If you can find it, get:
Solarquest
Entropica
Orb
Pete Namlook and anyone related to him. Go to 2350 You can download 100 tracks at Emusic during a one month free trial, and there is a TON of Namlook there. Take advantage.

i just remembered how a trance song "feels" when tripping...you just fuckin drift off into what normally seems to be a simple beat but when tripping turns out to be a giant fuckin journey, that doesn't end for sooooooo loooooong.....like each beat makes you feel like you are travelling on a journey or something to somewhere amazing....
It must be hard to trip if you anthropomorphize your shrooms.

There you go, stealing my thoughts again...
I made a song while I was trippin last week, and when I listened to it while I was still trippin, there was all this depth and color, spirals flowing off the tails of sounds and it just took me into it and away. When I listened to it the next day, It was like a minimal tech-trance like jobber, but the flow and timing of the structure seems to carry a little clue. I'll put it on-line if anyone is interested.
Deep in the vortex I rest... clueless to time, for madness has its own circle.

My trip music has to be very possitive as well. its not just the trippy sounds..tool is a lot deeper than just trippy sounds..listen to the words and the imagery he paints..lateralus their new album to me is a very spiritualy intense album..just had to defend my favorite band..

Lateralus
Black then white are all I see in my infancy.
red and yellow then came to be, reaching out to me.
lets me see.
As below, so above and beyond, I imagine
drawn beyond the lines of reason.
Push the envelope. Watch it bend.
Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind.
Withering my intuition, missing opportunities and I must
Feed my will to feel my moment drawing way outside the lines.
Black then white are all I see in my infancy.
red and yellow then came to be, reaching out to me.
lets me see there is so much more
and beckons me to look through to these infinite possibilities.
As below, so above and beyond, I imagine
drawn outside the lines of reason.
Push the envelope. Watch it bend.
Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind.
Withering my intuition leaving all these opportunities behind.
Feed my will to feel this moment urging me to cross the line.
Reaching out to embrace the random.
Reaching out to embrace whatever may come.
I embrace my desire to
feel the rhythm, to feel connected
enough to step aside and weep like a widow
to feel inspired, to fathom the power,
to witness the beauty, to bathe in the fountain,
to swing on the spiral
of our divinity and still be a human.
With my feet upon the ground I lose myself
between the sounds and open wide to suck it in,
I feel it move across my skin.
I'm reaching up and reaching out,
I'm reaching for the random or what ever will bewilder me.
And following our will and wind we may just go where no one's been.
We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no one's been.
Spiral out. Keep going, going...
how is that for positiveness?
some say the end is near some say we'll see armagedon soon..certainly hope we will..i sure could use a vacation from this stupid shit.

i like the album but it isn't the right mood for me to trip (btw the lyrics ARE amazing)
i like upbeat stuff like Hendrix for the come-up (or Marley or Peter Tosh), so I get into the groove, then put on whatever I desire

'Anthem of the Sun' is a trip compressed and made into music. "Dark Star' is THE trip song par excellence. 'AoxomoxoA' is experimentation with STP as well as LSD. 'That's it for the Other One,' another trip ("Spanish lady comes to me, she lays on me this rose - The colors spiral 'round and 'round - They tremble and explode - It left a smoking crater of my mind I'd like t'have blown away, but the cops came 'round and busted me for smilin' on a cloudy day - comin' around, com-min' a-round.")
'Weather Report Suite, ' Blues for Allah,' Everything that's not 'Johnny Be Good' or 'One More Saturday Night' or cowboy ballads works. Who? Grateful Dead of course.

upbeat stuff is good if you are just lookin to be really happy..but if you choose to have an overly spiritual experience tool is a good choice..not the only band to choose from though..i like to listen to a lot of aphex twin when im trippin..i like the richard d james album a lot for when im peakin out but when im comin down i always ALWAYS put in ambient works volume 2..its the best and most relaxing album ive ever heard in my opinion..makes me feel like im lost on some journey through life..i love hendrix..i listen to a lot of hendrix actually.thats what i started trippin on..he is what got me started writing music..i also love led zeppelin and of course how could you forget pink floyd...im more into older stuff than i am newer stuff but tool is sort of new and they just trip my trigger..all the wierd timings in their drum beats and eary ass guitar riffs.maynards words are real deep down personal stuff..he has the best voice out there today in my opinion..you have all of these different bands out there that only have one thing going for them..its either the singer is really good or the guitarist is really good..and one or the other is the backbone of the band..if you study tool at all you notice that everyone in the band plays a key role and they work as a solid team...i love tool
some say the end is near some say we'll see armagedon soon..certainly hope we will..i sure could use a vacation from this stupid shit.

Parabol
So familiar and overwhelmingly warm
This one, this form I hold now.
Embracing you, this reality here,
This one, this form I hold now, so
Wide eyed and hopeful.
Wide eyed and hopefully wild.
We barely remember what came before this precious moment,
Choosing to be here right now. Hold on, stay inside...
This body holding me, reminding me that I am not alone in
This body makes me feel eternal. All this pain is an illusion.
some say the end is near some say we'll see armagedon soon..certainly hope we will..i sure could use a vacation from this stupid shit.

If you are looking for some positive, happy groups, try Beulah. Get "popular mechanics for lovers," "what will you do when your suntan fades?", or "hey brother."
It seems the last laugh always falls upon us, and I won't fight it anymore. And when the music stops I'll step back into the dark, and wait for the encore.

Oh yeah, and i forgot: The Olivia Tremor Control. I've already posted about them before, but they are superb. Get the songs "courtyard," "nyc-25", "hideaway", "i have been floated', pretty much any song you can find. You won't be dissapointed.

a few outa the dusty stacks o' wax...
larry corryell & some friends from "oregon" did an album together called _the restful mind_ ('nuff said)
walter carlos did a double LP called _sonic seasonings_
the incredible string band did a double album called _U_ (from a tour they did with stone monkey dance troup) --- well, some of the songs are perhaps better edited out for tripping, but some of the cuts are transcendent...
hmmmm...
paul horn had done some amazing stuff --- recording inside the taj mahal (twice), inside the great pyramid, and any number of jazz & "new age" flute & sax stuff --- his album _inside 2_ has one side recorded with a whale; the other is a rather cosmic elemental suite...
grateful dead --- welll, yeah.... the double CD _grayfolded_ has (via "plunderphonics") like 140 minutes or so of "dark star" --- i mean wheeeew yeah.... & the albus _workingman's dead_ & _american beauty_ have some of the sweetest songs hunter (& garcia & lesh) ever writ...
garcia & wales did _hooterroll?_ and my main complaint is that it's just not long enough... hehheh...
ooookay....
mellow... wellllll... lotsa jazz touches mellow, but some cuts may journey to incandescent... you might hafta pick & mix... miles, coltrane (john & alice), pharoah sanders, jack mcduff, john mclaughlin, charles mingus, charlie lloyd, paul winter, kieth jarrett, hubert laws ............

By the way...on significantly high doses of psychedelics (say, a couple of large gel tabs), Ravi Shankar is the only sound certain nervous systems may accept. Not only the sitar, but the tamboura, the "drone instrument" as Ravi has called it, resonates with high chakra states. Certain ragas can take one to very high states of samadhi - crown chakra states of pure mentation. This is not for social situations, but for the serious 'psychonaut.' Om Shanti.

although one thing i have noticed is it is absolutely imposible to say what will be upbeat or not, if you ar enot actually tripping. i remember once i picked out a very seemingly tranquil cd of waves crashing on a beach.. man it freaked me out when i was tripping!!! it was scary... seriously what i like more than music is audio tapes of things like dave barry type stuff. anybody ever read/heard anything by david sideros?i listened to tat my last trip..

Hey all,
Did anyone mention:
Dave matthews (any alum before Everyday)
I also enjoy Moby's PLAY and Paul Oakenfold's TRANCEPORT (even though i don't listen to that genre of music)
I agree that the Beatles, (th great) Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, and Tom Petty are excellent listening (stoned or not)
Pink Floyd (anything)
I also find that classical music is great zoning music (i.e. Bach, Mozart, etc...)

The best albums to trip to are UFOrb, Orbital's Why?, and Deep Forest's Bohem. I can't listen to 60's music when I'm zooming because I always start thinking about the hippie movement, and what a total failure it was, and it depresses the shit out of me.

In reply to:
i just remembered how a trance song "feels" when tripping...you just fuckin drift off into what normally seems to be a simple beat but when tripping turns out to be a giant fuckin journey, that doesn't end for sooooooo loooooong.....like each beat makes you feel like you are travelling on a journey or something to somewhere amazing....
my thoughts exactly.

I don't know about anybody else but whenever I'm tripping on shrooms I enjoy listening to pop music,,such as *NSYNC or 98*. It really messes u up. I see all this weird stuff and Itfeels so awesome. But that's just me.

I also like to find music with a postive vibe...
the dead, I recommend anything featuring LTJ Bukem especially the Logical Progression series, the moody blues, and pink floyd (meddle is awesome)....

though i do LOVE 60s music, i can't say i honestly prefer one style or another. different music just takes you different places on psychedelics. shpongle makes me almost feel like im sucked in to some tribal world and brings out an almost animalistic vibe which is really cool, 60s music is very inspiring, folk brings me vivid images of celtic culture, etc. its all just about where you're in the mood to travel
