This looks fun:

It's a drum machine that you can also use as a VJ control.
I've been really interested in performance art/VJ equipment lately. Is anyone here into that or know anything about it?
BTW: the link to the above equipment is: http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/TriggerFinger-main.html

actually, thats not a drum machine at all, its a midi controller. what this means is that by itself it is completely useless. you couldnt buy this and then shit down and expect to have all sorts of drum sounds come out of it.
what it does instead is triggers samples loaded up into a seperate program (such as logic, reason, cubase, ableton, ect) on your computer. unless you know how to use these programs pretty well, id start looking somewhere else for something.
if $250 is something you find reasonable for a price range, may i suggest getting yourself a used roland groovebox on ebay. the groovebox is REALLY fun to use and it has lots of nice samples and cool effects on it.
thats a machine you can just take to a party/gig and go wild with!

Don't get Roland MC-303 it's shit..
-------------------- when you're watching television the higher brain regions (like the midbrain and the neo-cortex) are shut down, and most activity shifts to the lower brain regions (like the limbic system). The right hemisphere is twice as active as the left, a neurological anomaly. The crossover from left to right releases a surge of the body?s natural opiates: endorphins, which include beta-endorphins and enkephalins. Endorphins are structurally identical to opium and its derivatives (morphine, codeine, heroin, etc.).After just 30 seconds of watching television the brain begins to produce alpha waves, which indicates torpid (almost comatose) rates of activity.

What are some entry-level machines?
I like the one I posted because you can use it to control video sequences. I'd learn the software for that. I already downloaded arkaos but haven't played with it yet.
