Adding water

Ok, I have a terrerium with cakes. When I feel that they aren't getting enough humidity, I add water. I have had trouble with this in the past because i'm not sure where to add the water. Should I pour some in the corners, or what? How do you guys add water when your terrerium isn't humid enough? THANKS!

"The Inner Reservoir Tek" http://www.fanaticus.com/resevoir.htm I just discovered this the other day. Seems like a pretty good method.

Yes, i'm using perlite, but I don't want the water from the spray bottle to get on the cakes. I thought you were supposed to avoid getting them wet.

Don't you have to keep the top layer of perlite fairly dry? If so, my problem is how do you put the water in so the top stays dry and the bottom gets evenly wet. It's not rocket science, but i'm sure noone would recommend that I take a cup of water and pour it ALL OVER the perlite. The key is to balance the dry and the wet.

Leary Fan, I have some questions for you? How much perlite is in the bottom of the terrarium? How much water did you add? Can you see condensation on the walls of the terrarium? How small/large are the droplets of condensation? Do you have a humidity gauge?

Well, I reccomend you just pour a cup of water over the perlite. You can suit yourself.

Groove_N, I didn't measure how much perlite I put in there. I put what I think is close to the recommended amount. I just poured a little water here and there, mostly in the corners. I can see droplets on the walls of the terrarium, but only because I put down a thin layer of perlite down, sprayed it all over, then added another thin layer of perlite. I do not have a humidity gauge.

The usual amount is 2" of perlit on the bottom, then add 1" of water. You can also put the dry perlit in a colander and wet it, once that is done you can then add that to the terrarium. I usually just dump it in and add water. Ther perlite will soak up the water and humidify the terrarium. I don't think you can add to much water, unless your water level exceeds (rises above) the perlite level. Did you spray the perlite (with a bottle sprayer)? Just pour water ontop of the perlit. If you have cakes in the terrarium, just pour the water down the sides, as to not touch the cakes. Like puscle said "it's not rocket science". Don't be afraid, just do it.

"The Inner Reservoir Tek" http://www.fanaticus.com/resevoir.htm Inject the cake with water. I started doing this a few days ago and it is keeping my cakes nice and moist with good fruits.

I use perlite too for humification and i wet everything...top layer and all. I usually get about 3 good flushes this way.....the wet perlite that touches the cakes seem to keep them hyrated. don't soak it......just use about 2" of perlite and let the bottom 1/2" have all the water. When pouring the water in.....go over the entire surface.....so it all get's moist.
