I was responding to the world is going to shit comment. Your other post is nonsense too. There is only a caste system if there is no hope of changing your status. That is not the case. The fact that you have already given up on wealth, if that is what you would otherwise aspire to, is more a reflection on you than the system.

It's your assumption that I've given up on it... It's all a caste system in way of wealth being a determinant of what rights are afforded on the basis of using it to your advantage... some people are exempt from law as a result of it. Don't see how that is nonsence... it's common sense.

Ironically it is the US government that is the greatest enemy of digital freedom.

How so? Don't countries like China require IPs to ban various websites that they disagree with? I think that would count as worse than the US.

Its easy for the US to be considered the worst in the world at everything if they aren't compared to any other countries.

The strength of the Internet, and the freedom of the Internet, lies in only one thing: *decentralization*

Decentralization was the reason they created ARPANET, decentralization was what made it spin out of centralized control into the INTERNET we have today.

The US wants to create a controlled version of the Internet. No illegal filesharing, no dubious activities.. Then what's next? No Shroomery?

The US is the only country that *could* harness the Internet if they wanted to. And the US gov't, judging from the Patriot act etc clearly looks to increase their control over the flow of information.

Let's prevent *any* nation from the possibility of gaining control over the Internet. Let's not end up with a http://1984 internet where big brother reads what you type when you type it.

There still is some fragility to the Internet. One country can still swap OUR www for a lame Orwell-web. Let's end that.\

For the same reason I like to see Micros*ft's monopoly broken. Decentralize. If the www was controlled by Gandhi I'd still call for decentralization. It's the accumulation of world knowledge, and that's too big to be dependant on one company and one country.

Hasn't China got access? And isn't access enough? One look to my lower right tells me which *real* IP i'm visiting and which country the server is in.  If you're talking about denying China access to the Internet then that's all the more reason to decentralize before it's too late.

I'm pro-UN. The UN is an ongoing conference of most nations in this world. It should not become a world government, but then again it never will be. To the UN the US is "just a country like any other", and frankly, that's what it is. It is only through equality that you can effect change. The UN may need a major overhaul, but it's the closest thing we've got to international unity.
We can't just stop talking and stop coordinationg efforts.

I think you're mistaking the US with certain corporations namely the MPAA and RIAA.

Bills like this (http://www.redstate.org/story/2005/4/13/164333/833) show an alternative side to US government.
