Who's going to get a job with a Poli. Sci degree? Or East Asian Studies? Comparative Religion?
Nobody can get jobs with these degrees. This is pure bullshit. I don't want to be a damn accountant. I don't want to major in computer science. I don't want to major in computer engineering!
God damnit.

I have my first degree in Forestry, which is almost impossible to find work in for a myriad of reasons. After about 4 years of diligent job searching I gave up. Now THERE'S a useless degree! So I'm back at school persuing a degree in Accounting. Not the most exciting field of study to say the least, but at least I would actually be employable....

I'm doing my M.A in political science with an environmental politics focus. Who says I cant get a job There are many opportunities (although it may not be as much as other popular degrees). Anyways dont make getting a job be the first goal you think of in getting a degree. You are learning stuff and thats the most important thing for me.

work in the non-profit sector...you will gain lots of prudent business experience in a more laid back business environmnent with people, for better or worse, who are actually passionate about their jobs.
the drawback is that you wont make as much as people in the corporate realm. but then, you didnt get an arts and sciences degree to make lots of money, did you?
I have a history and a philosophy degree, started out in the non-profit sector and now do pretty well in the private sector.

You shouldn?t something for the money or for the good job it will get you but just because it interests you the most. I?m gonna study Oriental Languages and Communication with Japanese as the main language... I?ll get to go to Kyoto to study, now how cool is that?

you choose, dya wanna be a soulless-corporate-moneywhore. or attempt to become a human?
and seriously they are not useless. the key is that if you choose to study something interesting. you'll have to do more studies for it to be worth something.
if you want to be an accountant or lawyer... its pretty straightforward. learn your shit. and then go to work and do exactly what you learned, then rinse and repeat.
if you want to carve yourself a career in comparative religion (ex)... you need to do research, have interesting/creative ideas, (interesting enough to get noticed) and probably have at least one other field of knowledge to draw from.
combinations can be really helpful, if you have something like,comp-rel, philosophy, pedagogics or any exotic language. in combination with something like sociology, psychology, ethnography, economy etc. you can do really cool, specialized, field studies for organizations.
or... don't wait to get employed... use your special knowledge to start your own business.
example, a friend of mine has a degree in Japanese and socio-ethnography (or some such). of course completely unemployable. but she don't give a shit, cuz she has her own company. making crazy money educating and training big business executives how to behave when negotiating deals in japan. also translating contracts and business deals.
so.. its all what you make it.

Lol. An acid cook would be a nice job.
This is just frustrating though because Georgia Tech is a pain in the ass, and doing all this work for a useless degree kinda hurts my soul deep deep down.

Believe it or not, but you've been duped if you think that the way it still works is that your degree has to correlate to your job. Finding a job is extremely hard now, but almost any degree can work towards any kind of job now. We're at an interesting point in job markets, when the entire education system is going to have to change because the job market is changing, and so that flexibility begins now. Don't freak out or anything, you'll get a job you like.

All I really know is that those few years saddled me with a faith in the redemptive potential of the imagination which, however flat, stale and unprofitable the world seems to me now, I cannot for the life of me shake. -Erik Davis
