my friends house is on a cow pasture i was thinking about getting some poop baking it and mixing it with spent pf cakes, will this work?

It might work but you might be better off with using fresh cakes.

is it ok if the cow poop is the only thing i use? after its been colonized is there actually a need to recase or can i let it be how it is?

you can just leave it be, nobody said that you have to case!!!! adding a casing layer will help out some more and if you went through all the trouble to sterilize the shit then i would!!! just get the shit and sterilize it (i would rather pressure cook it in som aluminum foil for an hour) and mix quite a bit of it with about two cakes, put on youre casing layer and let it sit, like you had just cased. once the spots start to pop up then you put it in the terrarium!!

it begins with an "m" and ends with an "ushroom"

verm. I think that if you want to use dung as the casing layer you need dung based compost, not dung.
