Has anyone tried to lay out a bunch of fully colonized rye on top of some wet verm? I just tried it today and i was wondering if it will fruit... I basically took a tupperware and laid the bottom out with wet verm, then put a bunch of colonized rye all over the top of it, then set that in my growing chamber with a flourescent light and a humidifier.... I guess if no one has ever tried it, i will keep anyone who cares posted on this as it develops. But any ideas would be appreciated.

i think that it will act like a big cake and for some reason i dont think that it is worth the troubles!! just add a casing layer!!! that layer of verm on the bottom will act like a waste basket and all of the myceliums wastes will go down there, i dont think that water can travel up!!!
it begins with an "m" and ends with an "ushroom"

because everytime i case it, i get contam... which was probably caused by buying 2.99/50lb bag of peat moss mix from walmart... and i dont have enough money yet to buy the dung brothers shit. I will keep you guys posted on the progress and whether it works or not.

that 2.99 bag of peat moss is the same shit i use. i mixed that 50/50 with cedar mulch i bought from home depot i think? both were big ass bags that i wasnt expecting but i just put as much as i needed in a big plastic bowl and added water until the water level was almost even with the top and microwaved it like 30 min or something. when it cooled it had soaked up more water than id expected, and also some obviously evaporated. dumped out excess water and washed my hands and spread it about 1/4 inch think. colonized casing about 50% in 3 days, i dont even think the mixed substrate is fully colonized yet! (crumbled cakes mixed with finch seed). deep scratched the casing last night at 8pm all the way to the birdseed till i could see no more mycellium on casing at all, but spread it out real good and i have about 3:1 peroxide:water mixture which i misted to a good amount (NOT WET!) and covered it back up. checked it 7:15am today, and just after 12 hours its already beating out teh growth i saw yesterday before scratching. just make sure the casing is airy, sterile and covered. i really dont see that pile producing fruits unless you keep teh humidity pretty high and conditions almost perfect, even after a cold shock, but then again im not the expert.
-------------------- Holy shit people; COMMON SENSE! we were all born with it where did it go? maybe theres a tek out there to explain how to use it! BUCKETS BRIGADE left hand man!!!
