That is a picture perfect mix for casings. I use something very similar, Sunshine Mix. :cool:

I agree, add some medium grade verm and its good. I also add powdered oyster shells (for long term buffer) only because I'm unsure of what lime they added and if its long term? Might not be needed, but I have tons of the stuff and its cheap as hell and doesnt hurt.. The verm is definatly a good thing to add though..

I'm not too sure about the wetting agent. Never payed much attention to it. I think the wetting agent is a perlite type of material. Scat, do you know? But regardless, it's a nice casing material. Works great!

Some chemical "wetting agents" can be toxic to humans.
Be sure to know what the hell it is - beforehand.

I just took a browse on the net for toxicity in wetting agents for soils. They are not toxic for internal consuption when fead to mice and rats. I couldn't find anything on Jiffy Mix's agents though. I'm doubting they would reccommend using it for vegetables if it were harmful. I've been using it for years and i'm still alive, but barely!

45-Verm/45-Peat/10-Coir... or close to that. Adjust the PH of the peat to around 7.5 before combining the mix.

Well it's not quite as nutritional as coir or other shit people have used. Trust me. I know. If it wasn't a good casing material, I kinda dought Paul Stamets would use it!!!!!!

Since your worries on the wetting agent, i've found no harmful effects from experiments with mice and rats on a # of wetting agents. Not my experiments of course. But experiments from Rutgers and the USC. Remember that mushrooms are shit filters in a sense. It's all about oxidation. The same applies to using bleach on and in substrates.

It comes with a ph buffer in it. I don't even pasturize it unless it's been sitting around forever.
