Man in black detained at U.S. Capitol

Quote:

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Police on Monday tackled and forcibly dragged away a man with two suitcases who had stationed himself in front of the west side of the U.S. Capitol.

The incident had forced police to evacuate that side of the Capitol in fear of a possible explosion.

Police, some armed with assault rifles, moved in slowly behind the man, who was dressed in black and faced the Capitol from a plaza below its west entrance. Crouching behind the wall, the police sprang up and ran at the man, who never moved.

He was tackled by two policemen, dragged to an ambulance and taken away. Police left the suitcases behind.

Some spectators applauded as police dragged the man away.

Before the standoff ended, Capitol police spokesman Michael Lauer said the man had not said anything to police.

Among the officials whose offices are on the west side of the Capitol looking out upon the National Mall are House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Illinois, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tennessee, and Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid,

Perhaps he was already a suspect that was trying to flee the country.

One does not have to break a law to be detained. If they tried to detain him, verbally (i.e. "Come here!"), and he refused to comply, then he resisted at which point he broke a law. Probably obstruction of justice in this case.

It's a little sketchy though. If he didn't say anything or attempt to be not detained..I'd tackle his ass.

Definitely a little shady in my opinion. He should have been responsive.

/wishes he lived in the USA's capitol

I'd dress up in black with a group of friends, carry 3 fuckin' suitcases...

And sue the shit of the assholes for arresting me with little basis as to what I was doing.

It's just bullshit paranoia, perhaps he was a goth/emo business dude. Their is no qualification to tackle him, especially if they left the suitcases behind.

I think they left the suitcases behind because they were afriad that they might contain explosives.

Shouldn't they have checked them and had a bomb squad in backup?

They did take enough time to watch their movements, they should've made arrangements to verify their assumption which can get their asses sued.

FFS regardless of what they thought... how many fucking people are in D.C. lugging around a briefcase? This is so ridiculous.

They have every right to remove anyone they want to from the property who they deem a threat to security.

... why not make the fuckin' capitol off limits, and the whitehouse can just be a fucking fortress?

They sure do, but really, how was this individual a threat? Please, explain the reason why a man dressed in black near the capitol is a threat?

He obviously went so far as to dress in black to distinguish himself, should he have dressed in Khaiki's and a Hawaiin shirt and have a Nokia camera on his neck? If I were to do something, I'd dress casually, as to not attract attention... how can we define this individual as a threat on the basis of the aesthetics and luggage he carries/wears?

Are all people that dress in the typical gothic fashion deemed as threats now? Or is it only if they carry 2 suitcases? Merely assumptions on the basis of paranoia, to perpetuate a fear that we are indeed threatened as a nation.

I fail to see why he was targeted and determined as a threat.

Well from what i understand, he was standing around with suitcases for a while and when security questioned him, he ignored them. When a swat team with >10 people surrounded him and screamed at him to lay down, he just stood there. That would qualitfy as suspicious in my book.

PFFFT!

I wouldn't move, nor obey if I was doing absolutely nothing fucking wrong... that's ridiculous.

What's more suspicious... police having too much time on their hands and picking on someone on an unsubstantiated assumption that he has nefarious intentions... or a man in black with 2 suitcases?

 Any new info on this subject?

I herd an update on coast to coast am. The said that there was nothing threatening in the suitcases and the man was not a threat.

Quote:

mong the officials whose offices are on the west side of the Capitol looking out upon the National Mall are House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Illinois, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tennessee,

I think some paranoid dellusional conservatives looked out there office window and had the man's rights raped.
