Things to help mellow you out?
    #4041326 - 04/11/05 04:07 PM (11 years, 7 months ago)

What are methods of calming yourself down, or mellowing out during a shroom trip if you feel a bit panicy? Thanks!

Whenever I feel edgy/panicky/generally negative, I just try to move away from wherever I am.  If where I was before clearly wasn't working for me, odds are much better just about anywhere else that I'll be more comfortable there.  I can usually psyche myself into feeling better after that.  Oh and warm, calm music helps a lot too.
:jamming:

Why do I have a feeling that if you ask this question to any 10 different people on this board, you'll end up with 12 different answers?

change the setting first and foremost. then relax and breath.

get up off the couch/ground/wherever... move to a brighter place. Sit cross legged, sit up strait, and breathe/sing.

When all else fails, pop a vicodin or something similar. Never done it myself, as I like to go with the flow--whether it's leading me to heaven or hell....

50 to 200 milligrams of niacinamide or inositol-hexanicotinate ("non-flushing" forms of vitamin B3, aka niacin, nicotinic acid) can often "take the edge off", & 250 to 500 mg can generally pretty much stop a trip...

(gosh, i wonder if anybody ever asked this exact same question here before... UTFSE  ...)

Well, first I try and evaluate why I am feeling panicky. In my case, usually this means I am afraid of letting go. The solution: letting go! I simply lie flat on my back, focus on my breathing, and let the mushroom have its crazy way with me.

Next time you feel panicky in a trip...don't try to hide or run away from the feelings. In my experience that rarely works. Just allow yourself to relax, sinking down down down...gentle breathing, allowing yourself to float away. Giving up control of a trip can help you slide through the mushroom realms with minimal resistance.

Throw on some Sigure Ros. Damn, listening to them on shrooms just gets me so calm. Funny thing is, the lyrics are depressing, and the melody is calm and pretty positive sounding. Thing about the lyrics is that they're Swedish, so you don't have to understand them.

Breath, and tell yourself it's the mushrooms doing their thang. You will be back.

I find alot of it is that weird feeling of the infinite, and we're afraid to cross over to it.

Mhm. It took me some time before I ever even listen to grateful dead but once I did it's always my escape route. And chill route. And happy route... and it's good for just about any other situation.

Some nice familiar music and changed setting will help you to clear your mind and relax.

Relaxing, letting go and going with the flow
Meditating
Marijuana
Donovan. Putting on some Donovan saved me and my girlfriend from some uncomfortable effects from tripping to Autechre.

First, determine what you're tripping so badly about. If it's something that's IN the room you're IN.. get OUT of that room for some time. If it's your mind that is giving you a bad time... then switch on a movie, some jazzy music that always gets you in the mood to dance or smile.. or even look at some cool images that are calming to get your mind off of it. Even the change from inside a house (which can give some a 'trapped' feeling) to a short walk outside or even sitting on your front steps.. can make a world of change. Smoking a bowl might help you relax also. A friend of mine takes a shower every time he's tripping bad.. and it works 10/10 times for him. I've never tried this meathod.. but highly endorse it.

Sammy

Let It Be by The Beatles. It managed to cut through my first T.Peruvianus trip (mescaline) (that otherwise lasted ~ 23 hours!) really clearly, during the short time it lasted for. I can't help wondering if it was written with that kinda thing partly in mind...ie if you're ever in a situation (drug-induced or not) where you need something to "ground" you...
