has anyone ever tried to expose their uncolonized cakes to the air, allow some random spore to colonize it, then fruit it? Its my understanding that theirs tons of spores in the air, would be curious to see what you could grow.
Theirs always a 1/100000000000 chance that it ends up being cube's.

it will be a contaminant-
this is not good as many emit ubiquitious(everywhere) mycoTOXINS. symptoms range, but ultimately, some can be harmful/fatal.
not a good idea, trust me
and just so you understand the potential that a contaminated jar holds, check out mold-help.org

yea.. those particles in the air are relatively harmless, but if you cultured them or let them grow and multiply, thats when the bad stuff starts happenin

It might be a neat idea- just to see what grew.
It would be a bad idea to eat anything that might colonize the cake.
I think your chances of getting cubes to randomly colonize a cake exposed to air are even slimmer than that.

That leaves a 99999999999/100000000000 change it wouldn't be cube's. Might be a fun experiment though - if you have the time and subtrate to play with. I definetly would be to quick to eat anything you grow though.

what about putting a uncolonized cake in the same chamber as one that was fruiting? then the abundance of cube spores would be huge! as long as the caps were opened... ive had thoughts that this may be a neat way of creating new strains that perform well under artificial conditions.. you do this, get it colonized well with something nice, and clone the mushroom that pops forth..
seems like an interesting idea..

would have to be a super clean chamber.
i still cant figure out why hydroponic cakes cant get contams even if only for a day else their chemical content will be adversely altered, but wild cakes can fight contams for weeks and produce healthy safe mushrooms.

If you go to home depot you can get a Mold Test kit to see what molds are around your house. Its just a petri dish with no lid you leave sit out.
And what the hell is a hyrdoponic cake.

haha. A couple days ago I was telling someone i had some shrooms to trip and he asked me if they were hydroponic. I was confused for a moment, then corrected him. (pointless but relevant)
