 Saving money- need advice from all

Last summer I pretty much squandered way too much money on stuff like marijuana, eating out, gasoline, and beer.
This summer I am set on saving money. I need inspiration on why to save, what to save for, and how to avoid money traps. With a steady income in small amounts, I find spending easy. But at the end of the summer when I realize the total I spent, I realize I wasted a lot.
What do you save for- and how do you manage your money?
I really need to balance fun with perseverance. With a wallet full of cash it is so easy to go all out and buy weed, beer, and food, which I will deem the trinity of my money sinks.
I think I just need to put my money out of sight, and out of mind, and live like I was poor. That way I will have a nest egg to work with when I really need it.
My personality type as a Leo means money slips through my fingers like air, and I need to hold on to it and think long term. Pleasure verse understanding, right verse wrong- so easy to slip up and live in gluttony and squandering.
HELP!!!!

Tips:
1) Don't spend it.
2) Don't buy into astrology, your birthday shouldn't be a determinant of your spending habits, nor a determinate of your personality.
3) get a few jobs
4) sling dope.
5) be a con artist.
6) try activities that cost next to nothing.
7) rob a bank.
How I do it:
1) I don't care for money, if I have it, I tend to waste it on others more then I do myself.
2) It's just money, it comes, it goes, utilize it as you see fit.
3) Earn more then you spend, adjust your lifestlye to compensate if not achievable.
4) I don't manage money for shit, as I don't really spend it.
5) I save money for the sake of it, just as I spend it.
6) You prolly don't want to take half of the advice that I just gave you, if not a higher %.
(I'm a Taurus or a Gemini depending on which typical model of western astrology you wish to refer to.)

You should always pay yourself first; by that I mean take 5% or whatever amount you can sacrifice without really feeling it, and put it away somewhere and forget about it. Do it with every paycheck, it takes a strong will, but if you stick with it over the years you will have accumulated a surprising amount. If you forget about it, it wont be too hard.. Good luck though, I have a tough time saving money myself.

one good way to save money is to take all of your small bills and change from your pockets and stuff them in a culligan jar at the end of every day. you might find your cash depletes a little faster, but it's not going towards stupid shit.
it almost plays off of the compulsion factor a bit.

Perhaps it is just chance they deem Leo eager spenders, more concerned with flash and flames, ready to burn money in the bonfires of worldliness.
Perhaps it has some base in truth?
Who knows.. all I know, is every since I was a kid even before I delved into astrology, I found this to be true.

Just a tip: Don't quit until you have a guaranteed job lined up.. You could always invest in some equipment and start your own business

I always am trying to save money... sometimes I'm more successful than other times. I notice that when I'm really saving money, I get into these grooves where I'm really excited about it... I'll get super into it to a ridiculous extent, just figuring out how to do EVERYTHING cheap... I guess its just being frugal. It can be fun. Working a lot helps too, cause while you're working, you aren't spending money. Drink cheap liquor before you go into a concert/club/bar whatever, 10 dollar drinks are killers.
If you smoke a lot of pot, invest in a vaporizer such as an aromazap or vapobrothers. It'll stretch your stash, all you need is a few flakes to get high, its amazingly economical. Drink keystone Eat BRC burritos at el pollo loco. Its not being poor, its being smart and hanging onto your money so you can spend it on worthwhile shit. When you go out, bring just enough cash.

Cook your own food!
Grow your own drugs (That means don't use drugs you didn't make,
unless you're not paying for them)
See if you can have your income direct-deposited into your bank
account. If not, go DIRECTLY to the gank (bank?) after you get it. No
side trips!
Find some good friends who you can enjoy talking to instead of
having to go out for beer at every opportunity...
edit: invest your money! Buy tools, parts for whatever, things that
can earn you money instead of spending it. If you can afford to part
with your cash for long periods, look into stocks/bonds/mutual
funds. Buy things that will appreciate in value (old cars to fix? risky,
but fun!), or from which you can get more than your money's worth
(brew your own beer? fix your own car?)
If all else fails, open another bank account that you will NOT
withdraw from unless doing so will make you more money or save
your ass from something serious. Put as much money into this
account as you can afford to.
