Is my friend stupid?
    #4037395 - 04/10/05 02:23 PM (18 years, 11 months ago)

My friend told me that when your tripping on mushrooms and you pet a dog they trip out cause the psyclobin is in your sweat on your hands. he told me he actually saw the dog trippong out. now my friend is really smart most of the times but I find this VERY hard to believe.

I wouldn't say you're friend is stupid, but he is not correct. A dog will not start tripping in you pet him.

maybe if you let him nuzzle your hand, I know that my sweat smells different when I'm trippin; but am I sweating psilocybin or a waste product? My guess would be a waste product (non-psychoactive)

Animals seem to know when you are tripping though. Maybe your friend pet his dog and the dog knew he was trippin and started behaving differently?

this comes from an old LSD myth. Many people thought that because LSD can be absorbed through the skin they would also trip if they came in contact w/ someone who's tripping as well but as I said this is a myth.

I would run up and down the streets in my underwear screaming, "OH GOD oh god oh god, which bus do I take to get to the center of the earth, I can't tell the numbers are all a blur" or something like that. Maybe you can control yourself enough to shake someone's hand after eating a sheet of acid. I sure as hell cannot.

True. Remember, animals can't talk like we do, so they rely on many non-verbal cues to understand what others in their pack are doing (yes, you are a member of a pack if you own a dog). Facial expressions, body movements, and as SWEDEN said, smells, are all unfamiliar to the dog when you're shrooming.

My dog tends to avoid me if I'm being too weird for his liking!

if i am correct, this is exactly how Albert Hoffman discovered the affects of LSD. He had been doing something with the newly made LSD, and some of it got on his hands. He then went home, and experienced a very light LSD trip. He came to the conclusion he had made a new hallucinogenic.

LSD can be absorbed transdermally, however, he was asking if someone who was tripping could transfer the substance through sweat to someone else. You cannot do that.

nope, heres a quote straight from the book

Because of the known toxicity of ergot substances, I always maintained meticulously neat work habits. Possibly a bit of the LSD solution had contacted my fingertips during crystallization, and a trace of the substance was absorbed through the skin. If LSD-25 had indeed been the cause of this bizarre experience, then it must be a substance of extraordinary potency.

it doesnt come out of your sweat glands, but becuase of the glands on your hands(haha) you can absorbe pure lsd, ie the liquid. However you wouldnt want to do that of course

I've heard of a similar thing happening with people, but not from touch, from pheromones.

We called it the 'tripmosphere'. If one of us was tripping out of our circle of friends, it was like we all felt it (all being in the same room as the tripper of course).

Once a dog barked at me violently when I was tripping, I thought he could tell...maybe he could, but my friend was convinced that it was because he could smell my fear. Don't know why I was scared, and from that moment on dogs have become like best friends to me.

animals pick up on sublte clues. I wouldnt say they 'know' we are tripping (although that is the best way of phrasing it). But they notice differences in our behaviour, how we carry ourselves, etc - and some may find it more inviting, others may find it weird and freak them out.

I remeber walking around town on LSD, and a cat followed me and my friend around the entire night. We sat in a giant field and the cat just chilled with us/played with us/etc for an hour or two.

I guess because we were !?$-z' up, we didnt seem threatning to him? *shrug*

Either way, animals can most def sense 'changes' in people when they are high.

note: crazies, homeless, wackadoos, and psychos can also sense this.

I find that whenever I'm high (and doubly so when tripping), the craziest people will come up and start talking to me.

Yeah, I have wondered what causes others to be so weird when I am tripping. Is it their response to my "strange behavior," or is it simply my warped perception of their "normal" attitudes?
I call to mind a time where I was tripping out pretty hard and my sober friend was sleeping over. I forget what he said but I suddenly became convinced that he had eaten some of my shrooms because he was acting so weird. This of course was impossible since I had eaten the last of them.

I often say that my BF is stoned by association. He's not a big pot smoker, however he still seems to be on the 'same level' as me when I'm ripped.

He's also been called "Psychadelic Steve" by other friends of his, as he seems to connect with them while they are tripping, even if he's sober.

I once went to my friend's while tripping, his dog really likes me as I seem to be more affectionate towards it than anyone else in his house, but when she saw me tripping, it was like she was absolutely obsessed with me, the most amazing part is that she knew EXACTLY what to do and how to behave to make me trip sooo much better and harder than I was, god I love animals...
