Poo/straw substrates?
    #4037313 - 04/10/05 03:49 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

I started with PF cakes crumbled and cased then moved to WBS cased (usually verm with either peat or coco) and I've been happy so far. My 4 casings put out a total about 1.5 dry oz. I now wanna use the mycobags because all these jars are a pain. I'm going to use bulk casings with poo and straw but trying to choose between WBS, Rye, Corn, or straw as my substrate. Any tips? IF I'm using straw in my casing, does straw as a substrate "make or break" the grow?

Try WBS spawned to weathered h/poo. You just cannot get better than that.

As long as I have a big colonized bag of WBS, can I just dumb it all in a really big (like, 36"x12") tray and layer the poo and straw over?

It sounds like you're about ready to rip my head off, but let me get this right, take the colonized WBS, straw, whatever, and mix it with poo and straw, let it incubate for a couple days, then case? Or just fruit it as is?  :sorry:

clozedeyer-- take a look around the site, and you'll find a bunch of information on straw/dung.  a little research will go a long way.  :smirk:

Good luck, and keep us updated!

And, yes, definitely incubate before casing.

naw...I wouldn't do that.

you would spawn(mix) your colonized substrate(jars) with whatever bulk material your gonna work with...such as straw, horse poo, cow manure&straw, worm casings...etc.

yeah you would let it colonize til the mycelium has taken over the bulk substrate.

then you would put a casing layer on it.

you can fruit off a bulk substrate like horse poo without a casing layer...but I'd suggest using one...you will get better flushes.
