Help with Species Identification

Hey, I have no clue what I have found today. I went on a hunt in some newly-built house neighborhoods and I was walking along and I spotted these mushrooms growing abundantly throughout the rich grass. The grass hadn't been mowed in awhile, and it was a nice dark green. I was thinking that these might be some strain of stuntzii. stuntzii var. tenuis or something. The spore print is black, and the cap is light brown, and darker brown twards middle. The stem is fairly weak in younger specimens, but the largest one, I can wrap arround my finger. The stem is very light brown, and reflective whitish at times -somewhat like cyanscens. This was found after heavy rainfall two days earlier(washington), and then followed by a warm-to-the-touch sunny day. some specimens have flat caps, and I'm guessing that they are more mature, yet they seem to be still smaller. The gills are attached, and they are dark brown. They also kinda resemble a panaoleous observing it with the eyes. Yet, they were growing in a lawn. Maybe they soil they used was based of manure? The stem has white substance on the upper part, like that of a panaoleous. It smells like an edible mushroom- or like a buttion mushroom. I can see no bruising blue. Have no clue what this could be, help me out.
heres some pics to get you a visual-
this is the one that makes it look exactly like a panaoleous-
Let me know if you need more pictures. I picked as many as I could, but there is still more, and I could get a habitat shot maybe tomorrow.

Holy shit, I think they're Panaeolus subbalteatus!!! I just read gumby's post on morels and pan subb's and saw his pic and im like "damn, that kinda looks like what I got" Im now pretty sure they are pan subbs, but a word from an expert would certainly re-assure me.

The stems look too thin to me. That is one of the determining characteristics.
I think you may have Panaeolina foenisecii; it is more common in lawns, has a narrower stem, drops dark brown spores, and is inactive.
Are you sure your spore print is black and not really dark brown?

It is black, now that I have a darker spore print. Before I could not really tell, but they are jet black. It also has those white fibrils running up and down the stem. I think the reason why the stems are so long and narrow is because the grass hadn't been mowed in awhile, and there was no evidence of any recent clippings.

Yep- here's a pic of what I got today. Many of them, but they are quite small. I think they could have benifitted from another day's growth, but hey- I just wanted some mushies.
And a pic of a huge ass earthworm I found[during] the rainfall that caused all this psilocybin to be produced.

Good books are invaluable.
I use Mushrooms & Other Fungi of Great Britain & Europe by Roger Phillips since I live in the UK as well as a few other books.
As far as web sites go, mushroomexpert.com is pretty good

Nah, the spore print is jet black -FOR SURE they're subbs Plus many of the specimens were just not all the way matured yet, I kinda picked them a bit early.

If the print is black, then they are of the genus Panaeolus. A black spore print does not however grantee Panaeolus subbalteatus. I don't know which species you have, but I suspect the are not Pan subbs.

How can I tell for sure what they are? I dont have a microscope... the description for subbs matches what I have here, yet the only thing is that they have narrower stems. there were two that had good-sized stems (like 4mm), but there were only two of them.

Im positive they aren't panaeolina foenisecii, and as of now, I dont know what to think. I went to mushroom expert.com, but they diddn't have anything on them. I dont have any book that has them either. Well, atleast they are edible.

You have a box of many common lawn/horse stable fertilized lawn species. Identification beyond guessing is out of the question, (mixing species in a box is not good if you plan on consuming them later). Sturdy Paper bags are easy and manageable in the field I see 3 possible species of panaeolus, P. campanulatus p. sphinctrinus and maybe a p. subbalteatus or 2 and that is a big maybe, the 5th photo is the only one I see that would be one, " given the location of fruiting they are most likely pan foens, I can't give you a positive ID. (Most if not all inactive) a species of conocybe, "most likely lactea"(no eating these unless you want a bad stomache ache and the runs). I recommend throwing them out and trying again. This time get to know the sublte differences in macro features and separate them... Then read the faq and post a detailed list of the different species you have found. Nofindum....

So far I can see two different kinds of mushroom in your photos. And none of them happen to be subbalteatus. This last season I harvested more subbs than you know what to do with, and I can tell you those arent them.
