Too Many Aborts!! PICTURES Need some help
    #4034240 - 04/09/05 12:34 PM (18 years, 11 months ago)

I recently case Equators on Rye, case with Coir and Verm everything was looking good, I had quite a lot of pins but it looks like most are now aborts. See pictures below, my temp is about 75-80 and my humidity is at 80, what might be the problem that would cause all of these to abort?

Is that your terrarium? If so, I'd suggest some perlite in there for humidity. I'm assuming that you're relying on misting for moisture, so I'd say that your spraying technique could be causing the aborts. Also, how often do they get fresh air???

i fan them 2 x a day morning and night, as for humidity I don't use pertite because I never had a problem keeping the humidity high enough, I use a jug of water with a heated coil inside the jug it tends to keep the humidity above 80 and temperature near 70-80. Would Perlite imrove the chamber, if the humidity seems high enough?

OK, as long as your humidity is fine, and your not misting on the casings. Water on them will definately cause aborts. I'd say you need to give them more fresh air. Also, is it straight cased rye, and how deep is you sub???

the container is about 2 inches deep, I will continue to fan them more, and I'll keep an eye on the temp and humidity.\

few things I need clarification on.

1 what is the idea temp for the pinning stage?
2 what is the ideal temp and humidity for the fruiting stage?

Thanks for the advice.

with casings, you wanna keep both temp and humidity in the mid 70's...  also, sounds like you might need to get ur sub depth a little thicker. with straight cased rye i usually try to have at least 3-4 inches of colonized rye under my casing layer... GL bro :stoned:

sorry my mistake Eq colonized to rye then spawned to straw after that cased to verm and coir total depth is about 2 inches 65% of that is the colonized rye/straw.

A more even casing layer, that doesnt have substrate poking up through it, will be of help in minimizing your aborts.

looking at the fuzzyness/fatness of the stems i would say he should try to get them a little cooler than 75 degrees. i think 80F keeps the myc growing too much instead of the network focusing on the fruits, IMO.

I just picked my first flush and as I was picking it I noticed that the shrooms weren't attatched to the substrate very well, so I desided to check the substrate. I noticed all the straw was blackened with rot, (straw rot). A lot of my cases seem to get this, what can I do to avoid the straw rot?
