Smaller jars?
    #4031823 - 04/08/05 05:08 PM (18 years, 11 months ago)

i was myco hunting and found 4 oz jelly jars and 1/2 pint jars that were wide and fat instead of tall. Are the wide fat 1/2 pinters still good to use? How bout the mini 4 oz jelly jars? What are the advantages/disadvantages to using a wide/short jar, or a jar that is smaller than 1/2 pint?

The 1/2 pint wide mouths are fine. If you have't tried walmart yet, it's worth a try. Thats where I got my 1/2 pint jars from. good luck and happy hunting!!!

1/2 pint wide mouth are ideal for cakes, in my humble opinion

*i haven't seen the 1/2 pints in more than one size, so i dont know about tall vs short, but if theyre each 1/2 pints i would go for the short so it colonizes faster

the 1/2 pints are small enough for quick colonization while with a good balance of nutes

Thats funny because I just inoculated a 4oz jar today. I figure if no one can answer the question you ask, just try for yourself. I'll give you an invoice on how the conlinization goes.. peace.

fizikz the colonization is going to be quick but the question is how many flushes can you get out of it?

Yea, the flush probably won't be big at all, but it's just for fun man.

the short wide ones are more suited than the skinny tall ones, one o the advantages is that they wont tip over like the tall ones when the mushies start growing

fizikz and lemon_lw, I've managed 9 flushes from half pint wide mouth jars, every
thing after the 3rd was pretty small but that didnt really matter, it all added
weight.

Don't think it's really necessary. I'm on my second and third flushes of 75 cakes and never had one fall over.
