How do I raise the humidity??
    #4032004 - 04/08/05 08:07 PM (11 years, 7 months ago)

I have a big problem, I can't get the humidity in my terrarium up past 39%, I have wet perlite in their, and I mist it, I also have a humidifier running outside of the chamber. I don't have the cash to buy an ultrasonic humidifier. So how do I raise the humidity past 39%???

Try putting a thin layer of dry perlite over the wet...this helps wick up the moisture into the air...if that doesn't work then you either have too much air exchange or your perlite is too dry

go buy a new hygrometer. i am willing to bet money that your guage is shitty. is it the cheap one from the pet store? but go take a semi-wet warm wash cloth wrap the guage in there let sit for 30 minutes then check. if it reads 39% then its definatly bunk. but with all that stuff you have going on you should be in the 90% range. unless you have a large hole in your terrerium.

That sounds like the one I bought and took back to Home Depot. I believe it was a Springfield brand and it had a clock, thermometer, and humidity read out. I remember having to breath really heavy on the sensor to get a humidity reading out of it.

It was a piece of junk. I ended up buying one from Myco Supply for $50.00.

Actually, its a pretty accurate sensor. However I'm sure neither of you realized that the external sensor is only for temperature. The reason it says its only 39% RH is because it is... its 39% RH where ever you have the display sitting. You can return it, and spend alot more for one with a remote hygrometer, or if you've got any skills with a solderinig iron, you can make the sensor remote yourself. It really isn't that hard.

I keep seeing alot of posts like this, so look in about 10-15 mins for a post on how to modify one of these so the humidity sensor is external...
