Stalled Jars for Grain to Grain?
    #4031532 - 04/08/05 06:05 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

I have four 1 qt. WBS jars that i think are stalled and too dry. If they dont show much more growth in the next week im going to say fuck em. Anyway i was wondering if i PC'd some more jars of WBS and transfered the colonized chunks from the stalled jars to the new jars, if it would work? I really dont want to keep wasting my syringes, because I only have 2 left. If this would work then how much of the stalled myc. would i need to put into each new WBS jar? They will be qt. jars again. I was thinking about 1-2 tablespoons of myc. per qt. jar would probably be sufficient, but i just wanted some input.

My stalled jars are only about 10% colonized so i wont have much myc. to work with.

Without knowing exactly why your jars stalled at 10%, I don't know if I would want to transfer them. If you are worried about running out of spores, I would recommend using your last 2 syringes to make some LC.
Good Luck.

Im 90% sure they stalled because i put them at only 70 degrees for about 1.5 weeks, and now its beel 16 days and they just got too dry i think. I had 3/8 holes in the tops w/ polyfill so the air exchange probably dried them out after 2 weeks.

I think it's at least worth a try if they dont show much more growth in a 5 days to a week. There are some nice chunks of colonized WBS that i saw when i shuck them yesterday.

If the myc is a healthy white & the stall problem was caused by low moisture content & nothing is funky in them?

If you can sanitize a bathroom, to use as a stand in glove box, or have a glove box & use very clean procedures.

Yes, you can G2G the healthy myc from stalled WBS jars, into fresh WBS jars.

I have done it a few times, long ago & it worked fine.

Any G2G you have to be anal about sanitizing everything, wearing hair covering, a mask & all that.

Yea it works for me. But like someone said it depends why they stalled. I would recommend removing the good mycellium and rinsing off any uncolonized grains incase it was something bacterial. U don't wanna put the bacteria or any other contam in ur new jar or the same thing will happen..

This is what I do but it's frowned upon. I make a 1/10 bleach/water solution. Quick dunk and run off the bad grains. Then rinse GOOD under running water. Then do ur g2g. Just an extra precautionary measure. Some say it doesn't work but I like to just be safe. And the bleach won't hurt the mycellium with the proper dilution. The outside of the chunk might be affected but all the mycellium in the center will be healthy and will explode with growth after u break in up into some new grains
