I am testing out my terrarium and have a question. I am using perlite and water for humidification, the humidity i not really going up that much. Do plants have to be in the terrarium for the humidity to raise or will it raise without anything in it?

Half of your perlite should be underwater, and it will take an hour or two to get to 100%RH. If your doing everything right your humidty will be fine. No you dont need plants in your terratium.
Do you have an air pump?

how much surface area of the perlite is exposed, this is a factor in how much it raises humidity as well

Well you defintly need some air pumps to help kick some of that water around to raise that Humidty. > Make sure you get those air stone or bubble wands. Put underwater. this well give you a good idea as to how much water should be in there. air stones need to be underwater enough to bubble water and splash the sides.hope this helps..GL

well the way i got it set up in mine , I just got the bubble wands , they are long like 12inchs. ANd I got two of them running down the long sides of the Rubbermaid container. They are buried in the perlite and water is deep enough to cover the tops. Gl
