One strain to Another...
    #4031035 - 04/08/05 04:02 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

What is the difference in strains, meaning, one field of GT vs. another field. Do potency and yield vary that much? Similar to plants level of variance; ie good genetics vs. bad?
Have you gotten bad syringes where they just grow like bad genetics?

the potency of each strain has negligible variance. what affects potency is the substrate it is grown on

Strain itself, genetics, genetics over time (domestication), substrate content, environment. Many variables, you can't point out one thing in particular here.

well Me,personally . No. I wouldnt worry to much about this issue , IF you order your spores from a known sponser you shouldnt have any problems .In most cases in this type of market you usally are dealing with straight up people. stick with the sponsers you be Fine. As Far as strains alot has to do with how things are grown and maintained. There a dozen or more strains aviable out there. SOmeone my think that EQ is the Best ,then some might think B+ is the best , everyone's molecular structure is different and the effects vary person to person. Know what im saying? Just try getting the 4 grab bag deal and choose different ones and try. see what you like.Thats what ive been doing. Its FUN! GL

The main difference in strains...is the location they were found in.
Some strains are from different parts of the world.
Strains are usually named for the location where they were found.

Potency differs slightly...from strain to strain.
But growing conditions and choice of substrate is the main factor in potency differences.

There are several different strains that give you different types of effects on trips though.
Good example is comparing the Cambodian to the Gulf Coast strain.
You will notice quite a difference between these two strains.

Bad genetics can become a factor.
Usually you will see bad genetics from doing too many G2G transfers.

Roadkill

How many times can you do a g2g. afoaf has a strain he has transferred 3 times with no problems. fruiting some and transferring to make more spawn with the others. Thanks :mushroom2:

thanks for the replies. I think more specifically what I was thinking was the variance within the same strain. Like one spore print of Eq from one vendor to another. I have seen a huge difference given the same growth variables. If all the same variables were constant than deviation would be due to the variance in genetic quality?

Good question. As far as variation from one vendor to another, I'd say it has to do a lot with how they took care of the strain. I mean if you go distributing prints from of 5th generation G2G's, yeah there is definitely going to be some inferior genetics there, but assuming they took healthy fruiting isolates and maintained them properly, the genetics will be in your favor. Also strain characteristics change over time through changing so many hands and mass domestication, but I don't think anything can be done about that.

Hope that helps

Roadkill, yould you care to elaborate a little on this please?
Maybe this is caused by different Baoestecin (sp?) contents?

Usually I don't.

I like people to try the Cambodian and Gulf Coast strain's so they can see the difference between the 2 strains...themself.

There is an extreme difference between the 2 strains...IME

Yes there could be a difference in the level of beocystin in the Gulf Coast strain...than the level in the Cambodian.
There also could be a difference in the levels of psilocybin, psilocin and other alkaloid contents.

I thought so, even when psilocybin and psilocin should have the same effects on the body chemically speaking. But now beocystin is another matter

On a side note, I'm loving Cambodians
