Pan Cyan substrate depth

Pretty simple question, but I couldnt find much on optimal substrate depth for nice yeild with these. Though a search and the FAQs, I've seen EeoTan (or however you spell it :wink:) mention thin substrate depth being fine a couple of times, but there was very little talk of depth of substrates, and its hard to guage from pictures. It seems like some like Una and Olgu..use more like 2 or 3 inch substrate depth?

I wanted to know about both depth for optimal yeild, but also for optimal sized shrooms to get nice sized caps for printing. Two jars of spawn are ready for casing now, but more will be on there way and I can work with deeper then. Right now though, my trays are 2 1/4 inches thick..I'm thinking of going about 1 inch, maybe 1.5...anyone think I should go thicker? And how thick is the thickest you need to go with them?

I think Tan, may have mentioned that...or someone...really thick had problems colonizing. Same thing with only filling the grain jars half way I guess..

My yields are best on shallow substrate, less then 2 inches deep IME.  But that's just me. Others seem to have great success on deeper substrates. 

No one ever posts yield per cup of substrate, so Who knows which is best.

To me if you get over 3 grams dry per cup of substrate you did great.

It would be helpful to determine the EFFICIENCY of different teks by documenting yield as a per cup of substrate basis. This is a cup after bringing to field capacity(couple drops of water when squeezed) and before sterilization.

I never put more then a 1 1/2 cup per jar for Copelandias.

I think bulk is great if you need huge yileds in small space, but the risk of failure increases, and yileds per cup seem to go down IME.

Try differnet teks yourself and see what works best for you.

Thanks very much! I do plan on trying a number of different things...especially if I can get some fruits off of these casings to clone and make a culture. I just wanted some input on things I SHOULD try.

Last night I spawned them...1 quart of spawn per tray..two metal trays about 6"x12" and 1.5-2 inches thick (closer to 2 I think). Got about 10 quarts that should be finished soon though.

Although most of these look like they may be bacterial contamed to the bottom. I filled the jars up all the way (over 3/4 anyway, like I normally do), and shook them all to hell like I do with cubies. Oops! I'm learning though and I got 2 mini casings and those two pans now so we'll see how they do. Thanks for your input though EONTAN (! :wink:) I was hoping youd stop in. I'd like to master this species since I have little outdoor ability...this seems like the species to do..It feels like my first grow again :smile:
