I know several people have gotten germination and colonization on sterilized jars of manure, but I don't know about getting past that stage. (fruiting)

I use worm castings in my PF Jars, and they finish up about 20-40% faster than straight PF. Just what I have observed so far in my experiments.

If you use manure, you would probably have to pasteurize before you use it. The plus with worm castings is that you do not have to pasteurize.

Another form of poo I'm going to try out is rabbit manure. I'm curious to see if this will support growth, but I'm going to have to check out the PH before i do anything.

EXPERIMENT TIME!

If you use manure, you would probably have to pasteurize before you use it. The plus with worm castings is that you do not have to pasteurize.

Manure and worm castings should get the same treatment. Both are poo, ones from a horse or cow and ones from worms. Neither need sterilization before adding them to jars. I've had great luck with worm castings and horse poo (Just a bit of either...like a cup to 20 quarts, I may try a bit more next time though) added to my grains for the soak and simmer...

A search for "PF cake with poo" (no quotes) will yeild you some good info and some ratios to use. They are often used with dung lovers such as Pan Cyans, since they need dung to fruit. Use the Search Posts at the top, and make sure you change the date range from 1 month to 1 year.

I have some in the incubator right now! I used LC, today is day four and there about 1/4 colinized. I did different measurements in different jars to see which was fastest. so far the 1/2 pint with 1/2 cup verm-/1/4 cup brf-1/4 cup horse poo is in the lead. followed by a mix of 2/3c. verm-1/8 c. brf- 1/8 c. poo.
I screened the poo down to a powder to make it mix well with the brf.
everything got pc'd in pf style.
so far so good!

scratch that i just checked my jars and the doubled over night! now they are about 50%. I knocked up some jars with multi spores the same night and they are starting growth. i drilled some of those jars with 4 holes and some with eight holes. why not.

you might not want to have 8 holes because thats 7 more holes than you need, espically with contams floating around.

I use one slightly larger hole (about the size of two punctures with a large screwdriver) filled with polyfil. The large hole +polyfil+worm castings make for full colinization in less than 13 days.
