quite simply, does this do anything? I've heard things about it, and that it gives an effect similar to DMT, though it is extremely short lived. Is there any truth to this, or would it be a waste?

Apparently YMMV, because my friends smoked some on the comedown of their shroom trip and apparently went up again, though i believe it is psychosomatic. never done it, wouldn't waste my money. just eat the damn things, hah
i highly doubt it is like a short-lived DMT peak, but try it and post what happens if you have the money / will to do it / hook-up
It must be hard to trip if you anthropomorphize your shrooms.

Psiolcybin and psilocin are extremely sensitive to heat. If you put a flame to a mushroom....all you are doing is destroying the drug.

I have read that there is some psychoactive chemical in the mushrooms that, when smoked, is released and gives a 30min to 1 hour high. Banana peels have the same chemical but yuo have to boil it out of them. My friend tried both of these and was pleased . . . just my nickel

well, there is some serotonin & other tryptamine derivatives, as well as some dopamine derivatives in bananas... so if you had enough bananas & a decent lab setup, you could possibly get something vaguely psychoactive after extraction & purification of desired compounds via chromatography...
but since these chems are in the parts per million range, it would take a shitload of bananas (or peels) to yield a few milligrams of "product"...
that being said, some african tribes consume sufficient quantities of green bananas (or related plantains) to mess up their serotonin levels...
there's some wierd-ass chemicals in avacadoes, too...

Actually, the banana hoax comes from a Greatful Dead concert, where the band member went on stage tripping on acid, and one of the band members was carrying a banana at the time... They explained their bizzare behavour by suggesting to the crowd that they didnt realise that you could trip on bananas...People instantly went out and bought lotsa bananas in the hope that this was possible...
As for smoking mushrooms, Psilocybin and psilocin are chemically similar to DMT and there have been trace amounts of DMT proper found in Psilocybe Cubensis mushrooms, but in an amount that would have little effect on a user...

well what kind? u CAN smoke Amantias, but psilo well thats up in debate, like 99% of people here say u can't however only like 2% ever tried it, so well its just like the bannana thing, few tried it but everyone says it dosen't work. Anyways it might work to a certain degree, i guess u can compare it to smoking cocaine, most gets destroyed but u still get a effect. So perhaps if u smoke like 3-4g u might get a buzz but is it worth it?

i can most likely assure you that smoking shrooms is in no way worth it more than just eating the damn things
if i grew a very nice flush of shrooms, I would make sure that nobody smokes or puts any flame to my little babies
next people are going to start fuckin snorting or injecting shrooms/spores ... hah ... that'd be funny

I tried that years ago. When I was drinking large amounts of beer and doing that I would SWEAR to you that for about 5 minutes that I had serious halucinations. I remeber seeing the funuture move and and effect simular to a very old TV that had the picture rolling due to a verticle control misaglinment. I did that several times at it was very real. It's extremely short lived, however, and I never could get the effect unless I was allready at least 1/2 drunk. Basicly, it's only worth it when you havent got enough to eat. And remeber, a 5 minute buzz aint saying much!

i've smoked amanitas (about 12 bowls worth between four people) and got nothing but a mild dizzying effect (likely from just inhaling smoke... any smoke would have done the same)... i did not trip, i was happy (but that may have had somethin to do with the weed i had smoked in addition to the mushies).
the only reason we did it was cause we had bought a bag of the amanitas but realized we didn't have enough to do shit so we remembered erowid havin some shit on smokin amanitas so we did it and... were not pleased

my friends snorted some mushrooms dust LOL! they were already dhigh so i dought it worked but power of suggestion goes a far way
lol 1 night i was jokin about snorting thc crystals and the same 2 kids decided to try it put a 8th or so in a keaf box got the products cut it up more and up the nose it went
lol can you imagin that sticky crystals and hairs goin up your nose lol

i smoked a bowl of shrooms last night, i got kind of high for awhile, but the shrooms evidently werent that good. my friend who has smoked good shrooms said you get wicked high for like 4 hours.

sure, Psilo by it self, but what about the other MANY alkaloids that have unknown toxicity:

Dr. Hall also pointed out that "if solutions of mushroom extracts were injected intravenously, the results could be very serious." I have engaged in smoking some mushies before...
I believe it did give me a quick elevated feeling lasting around 5-10 minutes...
the best time i experienced smoking the shrooms when salvia was applied to the top of a mushroom packed bowl...
whoa now that was interesting :)

this thread makes me think of all the people who think they start tripping from eating the worm in mezcal tequila. oh yeah but if you dry the worm in the oven and crumble it up with some tobacco and smoke it you get fucked up! full body buzzing loss of coordination falling off the couch blasted! it's full of alcohol so it pops and fizzles all the way down. not exactly recommended but my friend had to prove to me that it worked. it works! the strong sensation only lasts a few minutes though, after that you're just pissed from drinking a bottle of tequila. yuck.

I smoked amantis out of a bubbler completly sober once, and it gave a mild euphoric high. It was DEFINETLY something, almost like a painkiller but with more energy.

I have smoked shrooms before...
Once in the woods..packed some weed, and then threw a cap in. Then ontop of the cap packed some more weed. You can definently taste it while hitting it. I felt a really good body high for about 1/2 hour, then after that it was just a regular comedown of weed, really tired.
The other time was before school one day. Same result.
So I guess it works to an extent for me.

I just throw the dust that i get from my shroom bag into a blunt, and one time my friend said he was feeling the shrooms a little bit, him not tripping at the time. Ive never felt shrooms when smoking them, but give it a shot.

this is quite an argument, i have it with my friends all the time. i think it works, but only while your tripping, hard. i usually take a tiny pinch and put it over top of some nuggets in a pipe. one or two hits does the trick, only lasts for a few minutes but MAAAAAAAN what a rush.

No. I would say you only get high from the part of inhaling fire. Not the mushrooms themselves. If anything, this high is less than that of a cigarette or some bad shwag. Besides, this is a mushroom we are talking about, you don't want little bits of mushrooms down in your lungs. That could cause a serious infection. Stay safely away for you lungs sake.

Once while tripping i tried it with some mushroom shake, I dont know if what hapened next was placebo or real, but it was cool. It was just a very rapid nice body high which added to everything else.
